I have long hair and pretty much always have. It’s quite thick and can be quite unruly. It’s a light brunette colour. A few layers in it but I don’t get it cut often (once or twice a year) so it isn’t really styled. I don’t have time / don’t know how can’t be arsed to blow dry it properly or style it and so I end up rough drying it and shoving it in a ponytail or bun most days. If I have time to leave it to try naturally it will curly nicely but it becomes a bit flat and lifeless.

I’ve got a cut and blow dry on Wednesday and I’m thinking I want to go shoulder length. I’m hoping by going shorter I’ll be able to blow dry it properly more often as it won’t take as long, and if I leave it to dry naturally the shorter length might lift the curls a bit and it won’t look so lame.

Any other ideas? I’m worried that going too short will make me look a Shirley Temple but I can’t be bothered with it being so long - what’s the point if I scrape it back everyday?! Any products anyone can suggest that might help? I don’t use any at the moment.

When you say you leave it to dry naturally it becomes flat and lifeless why don’t you try scrunching it when it’s damp with a mousse?

It will retain the curls/waves/body and won’t go flat but won’t look stiff as mousse allows the hair to remain flexible

Thanks @Fireman is this particular mousse one you’d recommend? I used to use mousse a long time ago so might give this a try.

It’s a lovely mousse as are all the products from their range that I’ve bought.

What I do when looking to buy a product from a shop is go to somewhere like Boots and look at all the different types and ranges of the product and a few will stand out and then I look up the reviews online on my phone!

I happily use hairspray but my husband hates it so I often use mousse as it doesn’t pollute my husbands nostrils or is noticeable like wearing hairspray is!
