Where can I look for ball gowns?

I've tried John Lewis, Debenhams, Monsoon, Coast, Ghost and not feeling too inspired. The nicest I've seen are Adrianna Papell styles in John Lewis but haven't seen the one yet. Are there specialist places I can look online? Lots of the full length numbers look like/are bridesmaid dresses which I guess I'd rather avoid. Budget around £200-£250?

Asos

TK Maxx (although may struggle this time of year)

House of Fraser stock some really lovely ones sometimes.

Summerb · 23/04/2019 22:08

I found some really good ones on amazon of all places! They have some really nice ones

Do second hand bother you? If not Oxfam shop online can be a good place and you might find a unique lovely dress and good designer for that price.

I've got a posh do coming up, and even though my trust long black gown will do, I quite fancy something new.

I hope you don't mind me loping in to your thread octonuddle but it came up at such an opportune time.

I'd really like rcommendations for actual shops so I can try for size without faff of returns (and can visit London, and can get at loads of shops). I've been very disappointed with what I've found so far.

And have decided I'm never setting foot in a Ghost again, as staff completely ignored me, even when I started taking things to fitting rooms - you'd have thought one of them might have managed to acknowledge I was there by the time I was trying third dress, even if they didn't want to serve me.

My John Lewis didn't have an evening wear department, and I decided I cba to wander round a whole clothing floor trying to find which concessions might have anything at all. But perhaps they're not all like that?

Edith I don’t mind at all! Nice to have some company along the way Smile
Thanks for the links everyone.
So far I like this one uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_20/6429230310 but haven’t tried it on. I’m just worried that everyone is going to turn up on the same dress!

I think that's lovely!

(I need something that will hide bra straps a little more reliably)

BogglesGoggles · 25/04/2019 20:51

Reiss do some really nice ones.

BogglesGoggles · 25/04/2019 20:52

Also Charlie Brown

Sickoffamilydrama · 26/04/2019 08:05

If you know what style and size works for you then eBay always has loads of bargains. You could get something amazing for your budget.

EdithWeston · 26/04/2019 08:08

I can see only one full length dress on Reiss and it's not exactly a ball gown -do they have more stock in shops?

Does Charlie Brown have an actual shop?

TapasForTwo · 26/04/2019 08:11

Phase Eight? Debenhams?

EdithWeston · 26/04/2019 08:15

I think I must be looking at the wrong Charlie Brown - the one at the top of google has no evening wear at all, let alone ball gowns

  • couid you link the company you mean? It seems there may be similarly names ones

I'm popping in tomsecind hand shops, and have seen some lovely stuff - nothing that fits in a colour I'm prepared to wear (so far - I'm sure the right gown is out there somewhere!)

I used to love dresses from Droopy and Brown - if anyone remembers them!

CherryPavlova · 26/04/2019 08:15

Phase eight and Monsoon do reasonably priced ones usually.
