Armpit smell

This weekend during this nicer weather I've developed a really smelly armpit. Used the same deodorant for years and suddenly just one armpit is really pungent and smelly. What on earth is this and any products I should use. I use a dove roll on deodorant.

Hi OP, I had this from (adult) DD this week (I cannot vouch for it but it's something that has plagued her):

I would also like to let you know that the Mitchum roll on deodorant I’ve started using is LIFE CHANGING. It takes a while to dry and leaves white marks on dark clothes but I don’t sweat or smell at all using it! I’ve truly never used anything better and I’ve had an issue with sweating for ages!!

Wash your pits with bar soap but not a moisturing one like Dove followed by Mitchum. I use the deodorant stick on as it dries immediately.

Bar soap and Mitchum . All you'll ever need.

AfterSchoolWorry · 23/04/2019 10:52

Yeah, bar soap and mitchum. This started a couple of years ago for me. 49, joy!

Fazackerley · 23/04/2019 11:53

pears soap and sure cream deodorant - tick, vg.

Indeed wash your armpits with bar soap.
Do you shave them as well? I definetly smell my armpits more if I didnt shave for a while.

A few years ago I bought Lady Speedstick (American brand) on holiday in Costa Rica and it was the best I ever tried! I didnt even smell after a long sweaty walk in the humid jungle.

Dont know if I would use it on a daily basis though- that it works so well might mean there could be some long term dangerous ingredients inside. I also feel that as soon as it becomes spring and the weather warms up, our bodies have to get used to it and therefor sweat a bit more for a short amount of time. I feel that its the case for me at least.

Thanks everyone, I'll take all your tips on board and hope I start to smell less! I wash and shave pits everyday so not an obvious hygiene issue I don't think.

This problem regularly crops up on MN about this time of year! I second the advice to wash with traditional bar soap not a shower gel. It made a big difference to me.
I have sensitive skin and some products give me a rash so my preferred deodorant is the Forever Living Aloe stick but I know lots of people on here find the Mitchum one very good and it’s a lot cheaper!

Fazackerley · 23/04/2019 14:11

Washing them with shower gel doesn't count!

makingmiracles · 23/04/2019 14:15

DEttol bar soap, life changer.

Also if it’s bad enough to make your clothes smell even after washing(you don’t say it is but my son has this problem) try soaking them in white vinegar before washing, totally eliminates the smell.

MaiaRindell · 23/04/2019 14:15

I use Mitchum too. It's amazing and the scents are lovely and fresh...but I don't have a bar of soap. Why does this make such a difference? I will definitely try it, though.

JaneEyreAgain · 23/04/2019 14:23

nuudcare.com and I smell less when I don't eat sugar.

TantricTwist · 23/04/2019 14:25

Shower gel and moisturising soaps leave a film and do not wash off your previous deodorant properly hence the advice for using bar soap.

Isn't there something about putting on deodrant before bed?
