What jacket with this cobalt blue dress?

I work in financial services. I never wear this dress (see pic) because no idea what jacket goes. But it is lovely. What blazer would you wear with it out of:

  1. Navy blazer
  2. Black blazer
  3. (possibly too edgy for my offices even if the shape and neckline together are 👌) a yellow Stella McCartney blazer

They are the only blazers I have and am trying to "shop my wardrobe"... all help appreciated!

Oh, I also have a cream brocade blazer which am assuming is definitely out.

What jacket with this cobalt blue dress?

The yellow Stella without a doubt!

managedmis · 22/04/2019 21:27

Er, yellow obv Grin

What shows? Silver heels would look fab

Sigh81 · 22/04/2019 21:29

Ooh, even for the office?

Not the yellow! IKEA!

cheeseandpineapple · 22/04/2019 21:38

What shade of yellow? Can you post a picture of the jacket?

My immediate image of blue and yellow together is the ikea logo 😂

The dress is beautiful.

cheeseandpineapple · 22/04/2019 21:38

Cross post!

MsLayla · 22/04/2019 22:13

Do you have to wear a blazer? Can't this be worn on its own?

TipseyTorvey · 23/04/2019 06:41

Navy or grey for the office. Definitely not yellow 😂. I have a cream suede sort of biker jacket I'd wear with it in summer too.

UserN0me · 23/04/2019 07:59

Maybe not for the office but I’d wear a leather biker with it

twinkle999 · 23/04/2019 08:13

I have a dress similar to this - similar colour as well and I don’t wear a jacket with it. Smart enough on own. Wear back heels.

AnyoneButAnton · 23/04/2019 08:19

I’ve got a dress in that colour and agree that it’s a pain to construct an outfit around. I wear a (very smart) white cardigan over it (and either red or nude heels). I think if you can find a bargainacious white/cream/nude coverup of some sort then that would be the way to go.

NoodlingAlong · 23/04/2019 08:25

I think I would be going for a cream or pale grey colour. Blue & yellow together (as others have said) - IKEA. Or RyanAir.

cheeseandpineapple · 23/04/2019 08:46

What about a pale pink dress coat for spring/summer instead of a jacket?

Pale pink goes with so many different colours and a dress coat can be worn with dresses or trousers despite the term!

Maybe something like this but it’s sold out unfortunately

cheeseandpineapple · 23/04/2019 08:48

Agree a leather or suede biker jacket would be great outside of work or maybe even for work depending on how edgy your financial services company is?!

Re the coat suggestion, I meant it on basis you wear it to and from work but at work just wear the dress. You could have a scarf with the coat which you could use as a wrap if it gets chilly in the office.

NakedAvenger · 23/04/2019 08:51

I've got a similar colour dress and wear a white tailored jacket with it.

Kochicoo · 23/04/2019 08:56

Navy blazer

VanillaCoconutDove · 23/04/2019 09:03

I’d wear it in the spring/summer months as a stand alone dress.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 23/04/2019 12:32

I think black. With a great bag and shoes it shouldn't look cheap like black+bright colour sometimes can. Any other colour (navy, grey) would detract from the amazing blue. Yellow + blue would be ridiculous at work, sorry. Cream is too weddingy.

Where's the dress from? It's gorgeous.

lablewhore · 23/04/2019 12:36

Dark grey suede biker would be gorg xx

Teddybear45 · 23/04/2019 12:36

A white blazer looks perfect with this dress

StCharlotte · 23/04/2019 13:06

I'd be looking for a little cardigan in as close to the same blue as possible.

I think black and cobalt blue looks like the worst of the 80s (and I bloody loved the 80s!).

Bluntness100 · 23/04/2019 13:10

Does it have to be a blazer? How coporate is your company?

I would go for a short fine knit cardigan, either in a very pale grey or cream.

However don't what ever you do where the yellow, the cream, or the navy, at a push the black will be totally fine.

twinkle999 · 23/04/2019 17:30

No one wears biker jackets in corporate offices 🙄

Sigh81 · 23/04/2019 21:51

Thank you, all - what a fantastic array of answers and ideas! My firm is too corporate for biker jackets (though I like the idea for outside of work) and have decided I will wear without, but with a scarf (cobalt blue and rust) from Hobbs over it and my beige trench to and from the office.

Dress from LK Bennett 😊
