I’m here to beg you to find me a dress for a wedding I’ll be attending soon.

Budget: I don’t have any money so as cheap as possible. Ideally under £50. £80 absolute maximum.

Dress code: extremely formal church wedding afternoon and evening reception in equally formal venue. Men will be wearing morning suits. Wedding party in pale pink so no plain pale pink.

Me: I am 177 cm (so midi length)
Size 10
Matronly bust (so low necklines and very high necklines both out of the running)
Colouring: I have neutral to warm colouring with pale skin and brown hair. Best suit colours like black, dark blue, dark green, olive green, greyish purple, dusky pink.

TIA

Dark blue, good for matronly bust, under £50. I tried it on and would be great for a wedding.

Thanks @valley but it’s a church wedding. I also do look like an overgrown child in anything that sits above the knee Blush

Look at quiz dip hem dresses, around £30. I have 2 and people always ask if it's Ted Baker 🙌🏼

Chocmallows · 21/04/2019 22:25

Monsoon green wrap could be flattering?

Nanalisa I laughed at that as I'm assuming a joke as pale pink and frumpy, but maybe not Confused

Not sure how you feel about off the shoulder but they do this dress in navy blue and greyish purple.

Slightly off topic, but how is the dress valley linked to not suitable for a church wedding? I think it's the best one so far.

junebirthdaygirl · 21/04/2019 23:29

Look at the dresses in Pretty Dress Company sale. I know there are sort of pencil shape but stylish and some fab colours and reduced from 150 to 55

Dressless · 21/04/2019 23:29

@luaa it’s open at the back

OP posts:
milkysmum · 21/04/2019 23:45

Why would the open back make it unsuitable for a church wedding?

Chocmallows · 21/04/2019 23:46

Wallis £95 down to around £50

@milkysmum back and shoulders need to be covered at church, obviously I could put something over the top but it will probably be hot so I’m trying to avoid it.

I really don't think think you need to worry about showing a bit of back and shoulders at church. Our church is a traditional Catholic village church and I've attended many christening/ weddings and have seem many bare shoulders etc.. very much the norm nowadays, especially if it's warm. That dress is as far from riskee as you can get.

ValleyoftheHorses · 25/04/2019 07:36

I read it that op attends a very religious church, (perhaps Greek Orthodox or something like Mormons?) has -as that dress is obviously fine for C of E etc in this country.

lancashirebornandbred · 25/04/2019 08:35

The serefina abstract dress by phase eight is lovely. (Sorry, couldn’t work out how to link). I wore it at the weekend to a wedding, as mother of the groom, and got lots of compliments. It’s £99, but phase eight often have 20% off. The colours are great, and it’s very comfortable to wear.

Dressless · 25/04/2019 08:46

@lancshire thanks, the colours look good, I may go try it on
Church is CofE but very ‘posh’ don’t know how else to describe it without outing naming it. So while I wouldn’t be causing offence or anything like that (quite frankly I’d turn down an invitation rather than attend a ceremony he’d by an organisation that polices women’s clothing) i would just embarrass myself. The church and attatched venue are both extremely formal and the event itself will be very formal for a day time event. I’ve found a dress I like (on a different thread) that I’ve ordered but it hasn’t arrived yet and I’m not sure it will suit me.
