What to wear on work trip to India

Fairly inexperienced traveller that doesn't cope with heat well. What should I pack for a work trip to Delhi for two weeks? I normally wear dresses with black tights and heels or boots all year round. Don't have a clue how to dress smartly in warm temperatures!

Hmm - I find it hard to look smart in hot weather.
When I've been to India I've worn loose, light weight trousers, with a loose T-shirt/blouse.

If you get the right fabric you could make this look smart. Linen is cool but always creases so I'd steer clear of that if possible

Cotton or linen - short sleeve shirts/blouses and loose fitting trousers - or cropped trousers and skirts or linen dresses. Next do some linen dresses that would be ok.

However, depending on where you are working and how you are travelling, you may find you will be in air con for most of the working day (car there and back and in the office) and can get changed into more casual clothing when you get back to the hotel. You could then wear your summer smart dresses with heels but lose the tights.

Laundry in hotels there is normally very cheap if you are there for a while or need things ironed.

Will you in be inside in an office during the working day? If so the air-con is likely to be on full blast!

Hi OP, you don't mention what sort of environment you will be working in, or whether you will be expected to dress formally or smart casual, so a little more guidance would be useful for us to assist more.

My boss, who is a lawyer, frequently travels to the UAE. She has to wear a suit for meetings out there, and recently bought a couple of linen trouser suits from Massimo Dutti, which she pairs with a fitted t-shirt or sleeveless shell top. She also takes smart summer dresses (knee or midi length) and heels with a loose linen blazer over the top. She has always mentioned that the air conditioning can be fierce so a jacket is a must if working or going to meetings in offices.

Comfortable smart shoes, many Compeed plasters, and pedicure are key. Feet can swell, or be permanently sweaty, or it rains hard. Blisters pop up in nanoseconds. The locals wore suits, tights and heels. I could not cope with this, so wore linen suit separates/jumpsuit, no tights, and resorted to smart leather well worn in flat sandals/flip flops. My usually comfortable heels were ditched as too painful. Air con is fierce, but you can transfer to very hot/humid conditions. I went hand luggage too. Make sure you are familiar with Indian airport reqirements on return leg, they are onerous, many stamps and checks. Enjoy the trip!
