Birkenstocks 'farting'

I have my favourite orange Madrid sandals. Loved so much I bought 2 more in white and 1 in blue BUT oh dear!! These fart when I walk. Why? They are exactly the same size, code, everything. The only thing I can see different is my loved orange ones inside/sole is shiny and leathery looking but these look more like cork. Has anybody got a solution/answer please?

I was told they do that when they get wet

VictoriaBun · 20/04/2019 19:23

Put talc on your feet before you put them on.

I had this happen years ago with Birkenstock style sandals. It sounds a bit extreme but my dad drilled a small hole in each sole and that seemed to work as it let out the trapped air.

Ohms11 · 21/04/2019 06:41

Watching with interest as i have one or 2 pairs of farty shoes.

Aldicheckoutworkout · 21/04/2019 10:22

😂😂😂😂 i remember this about some sandals my mum had we called them the farty sandals! (I'm sorry this doesnt help!)

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 21/04/2019 10:25

Mine do this but only intermittently so I'm presuming it's something to do with my feet and the Birkies at that particular time (Temperature? Dry or moisturised? Sweaty?)

Butternutsqoosh · 21/04/2019 10:27

Mine do this too, and although it makes me chuckle it also makes me walk wonky to try to stop them doing it 😁

This has just reminded me of when we were on holiday recently by the pool - the 4 of us were on our line of sun loungers and this old guy in his Speedos and sliders walked past every day after his swim.

With every step his feet were farting so loudly (not just delicate "pffft"s but full on mega-loud farts). He just seemed unable to hear it. One by one we just looked at each other, shoulders shaking as we stifled our laughs best we could.

This happened every day and it was no less funny by the end of the week than it was the first time.

Childish maybe but by god we laughed so much. Grin

All my sandals do this. Am curious to try the drill!

TheGoddessFrigg · 21/04/2019 10:39

Aha! My dear friend gave me the solution to this - Mitchum antiperspirant on the soles of your feet. It's a miracle cure.

MaryLo · 24/04/2019 19:08

Really? !!!! I've tried talcum. Is this spray or roll on? Can't believe I'm asking this !!

I know. It is funny but annoying at the price of birks. I just think they have changed something - prob moneysaving. I dont think my smelly feet have changed! Or my holiday actions walking to the beach and actually wearing them all the time. Just the new Birks!

Could the noise be coming from the strap rubbing against the side of the footbed or something? I would try talc in all the joins and crevices rather than on your feet.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 24/04/2019 19:38

This happens to me with one pair of birkenstocks. I think air gets trapped between my foot and the arch support, which creates the fart sound (very technical). It really annoys me, but only happens intermittently.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/04/2019 22:27

Steady now, the Birkie perve will be messaging you , bet he's having a field day!

ImaginaryFriends · 14/05/2019 13:03

These are working for me ... no more farting shoes.

They're quite thin so make no real difference to the fit of the sandal.
