Is Skinceuticals really worth the money?

I’m looking to introduce a vitamin C serum into my routine, and everything I’ve read online points to the Skinceuticals one being the best, but it’s so bloody expensive! Is it worth it?

Gentle bump...

Hmmm. I did the same research and came to the same conclusion so bit the bullet and have almost finished my first bottle. It’s bizarre because people rave about this product but I won’t be repurchasing at that price. It didn’t really do anything for my skin which was quite disappointing after reading reviews that it transformed people’s skin.

I follow a few beauty bloggers on Instagram and one lady I really like is simonescribes. She seems to have a pretty big ‘beauty budget’ #jealous Blush and posts her daily skincare etc. She didn’t say which Vit C she uses so I asked her and she said she alternates between the Skinceuticals one and one by the Inkey List so I think I might try that one next.

Obviously I’m just one person and it seems to work for the majority but honestly I was disappointed 😔

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative it might be worth checking out Pixi or Superfacialist's vitamin C ranges. Must say I'm I huges fan of The Inkey List though too. Skinceuticals is so highly priced!

I'm underwhelmed by it and defo won't repurchase. I think it's emperor's new clothes. Apparently, the timeless vit c is a dupe for it.

Thanks so much for the replies! I’m glad I didn’t part with £125!

No because you can buy the Timeless one on Amazon which is essentially the same thing.

Yes because it's the one based on actual research and has a proven formulation.

There are loads of more cosmoceutical brands out there which are less well known but Skinceuticals is the only one that seems to have gone mainstream - and so has the prices to match as being wondrous. But as with all skincare what really works is well known and has been for ages and everything else is tinkering with formulation, packaging, marketing and mark-up on the basis that if it's more expensive, it must be better.

IME, yes, it's the best Vitamin C I've ever used and it's what I compare all others too and am left wanting. But I don't think it's worth the price tag.

There are others that do the job for less, I'm currently using Timeless (can be purchased from their UK site as well, quicker than Amazon) and it's fine. It does the job but it just doesn't give me the extra kick that SC does but that extra kick is minor.

The Vichy version (same parent company as SC) comes closer to SC in results and the INCI is very similar but the bottle is tiny and it needs to be kept in the fridge (all of them should but Vichy degrades quicker than others outside the fridge IME) and while the price is less than SC per/ml it comes out about half the price which isn't really that cheap.

Never tried drunk elephant (I'm wary of the extra ingredients added to it and they colour it, so no clue if it's oxidised) but they are being sued by SC for infringing their patent so likely pretty much the same too.
