Shorts! I need help...

Florida holiday looming and I need a few pairs of shorts. I don't own any and avoid like the plague as they look dreadful on me.

Usually I wear sun dresses abroad and we normally do beach holidays so not a huge issue. This time we will be doing theme parks so dresses not practical and linen trousers too warm. Also need to avoid chub rub Blush

Am a size 16-18 with nice calfs/ankles but chunky thighs and bum.

Just tried 17 pairs of shorts on in M&S. either too tight, too short, too thick etc.

I'm totally depressed! Am looking for a white pair, black pair, denim and a couple of culotte styles. Mid-thigh/above knee in chino or lightweight material.

Help!!!!

I bought some flattering ones in Next last year. They were linen and comfy and nice. I had avoided shorts for 40 years until I got these ones.

I found some reasonable ones in Debenhams- the Maine range. They are knee length with a slightly tailored style.

Thanks, I'll have a look at both. Online everything looks great on the wee skinny models with lovely toned thighs. Then I try them on and get a reality check...

Do you really need shorts? I've got stubby legs, and shorts make me look like Jimmy Krankie. I wear light linen trousers or a skirt- much more flattering.

Asda quite often do linen culottes, which I wear instead of shorts.

BikeRunSki · 16/04/2019 16:40

Asda linen blend culottes

FattyFatCakes · 16/04/2019 16:43

Have you tried “Mom” shorts? They’re A line so if you have a nice waist you can show it off and if not you can wear s long too over. They would be loose on the thighs which I think is more flattering?

FattyFatCakes · 16/04/2019 16:44

long top over

I've got a couple of nice pairs from Gap, I've also cut down a pair of jeans which actually look OK, not short, short though!

fishonabicycle · 16/04/2019 17:21

I wore sundresses in Florida in the theme parks and it was fine!

ihatethecold · 16/04/2019 17:32

I also wore a sundress or skirts in the theme parks. Shorts do not suit me at all.
I use cream deodorant on my thighs to stop them rubbing.

Thanks folks. I've just ordered 6 pairs of shorts from Next including the linen blend ones. I may have also ordered a couple of pairs of culottes, 3 tops, a swimsuit and a pair of sandals too...

I'm going to hit the shops tomorrow and try the Asda culottes. Will also be near a Sainsbury's, Matalan (like the look of their city shorts) and Debenhams.

I have plenty of sundresses to that will be plan B if shorts are a definite no-go!

Warehouse have some really nice cotton ones. A bit high waisted with a belt. The material isn’t too thin so they have some structure. Otherwise cotton culottes are surprisingly cool in the heat.

Hoppinggreen · 17/04/2019 09:24

My legs are possibly my worst feature but when it’s hot I will wear shorts. I find the Boden chino ones are the best. I also have a denim girlfriend pair from Sainsbury’s that I like
I’ve accepted that I’m never going to look great in them but I look the best I can

princesskatethefirst · 17/04/2019 09:45

I 3rd the next ones. Definitely more comfortable in shorts in Florida as it's just so sweaty, I'm only a 10 and my thighs were sticking!,
