What jacket / coat with culottes

I'm loving culottes and wide leg cropped trousers atm (whilst not being 100% sure of the difference... Are culottes just shorter?!). Mostly wear them with a poloneck / round neck jumper and trainers or chunky loafers. But I'm really struggling to find a shape of jacket or coat that I like with them. I'm thinking relaxed and stylish but not bag lady. It feels like a fine line! And it's too cold to not wear a coat!

I have a grey suedette biker jacket I'm using as the best of a bad bunch but it's not quite right. I think it's too structured. What is everyone else wearing with wide leg stuff?

It either needs to be cropped for to flatter the shape, e.g. on the waist line of the trousers, or the same length as the trousers. Pics attached to illustrate.

I often wear a trench with mine, or a cropped canvasy jacket that's quite boxy.

Btw the best tool for finding styling ideas for a specific item is pinterest. Just search 'culottes' or 'culottes jacket' and you'll get tons of great images.

I saw a lady wearing a blue denim jacket with cropped culottes & it looked just right.

I wear either a denim jacket or leather biker in summer, in winter a long wool coat.

I think the difference is that culottes are more of a divided skirt, so more fabric?

Maybe I need to get myself a new denim jacket then... Mine is boxy, which works well with skinnies, but stops at the top of my hips so I look like I have no waist in wide legs. I think I need a try on session as I really don't like the first photo Spanish wife posted (sorry!) Too boxy and waistless for my shape.

And the second looks great for work, but a bit much for weekend casual and cords.
