Trainers!

Feeling inspired by the obsolete heels thread to discuss trainers.

I don’t really own any decent pairs and all the choice is quite overwhelming. For example Adidas trainers what is the difference between all the types... gazelle, original, campus, superstars, Stan smiths and so on.

What are the best trainers for everyday use that go with everything?

Any thoughts appreciated :)

Stan Smith's seem to go with everything. Although I don't wear them as they have a flat sole.

My trainer is Nike Internationalist. I just buy a different colour scheme every year.

I have Nike internationalists and the classic black Vans, I absolutely love them both.

What’s the difference between all the different types of Nike and Adidas though? I’m just so confused by all the different names of trainers!

I love my Adidas superstars. As for the difference between the styles, it’s just personal choice, a few years ago I loved Nike now Adidas.

But say Adidas, what is the difference between a gazelle and a campus?

I’m 26 and not sure what suits my age, I’ve noticed Vans on lots of teens, are they seen as okay for adults as well?

The difference is the shoe shape. As for Vans, I’ve never worn them but I wouldn’t use your age as a reason not to get them!

I think you just need to try on and go with your own preference. My favourite ate campus but they are suede and a bugger to keep clean. In summer I wear converse. I find Nike make my feet look squashed (even though they fit my feet perfectly well). Just wear what you like unless you are looking for something specific 😀

Another vote for Nike internationalist. I have a sky blue pair, and I'll be getting a black and grey pair too. Just waiting for dd to help me design them!

MN always seem a bit obsessed with Adidas trainers for some reason. Yet when I look around me in the real world, almost everyone is wearing Nike. Perhaps I'm biased as I much prefer Nike myself (and always have done!) or maybe it's just the area of London I live in or the gym I go to.

Nike Internationalist are a good all round 'leisure' trainer. Might suit the OP best as a 'beginner' Wink as they don't need breaking in and come in interesting colours/patterns. I assuming you're not actually intending to do any sport/exercise in them OP?

Or for something a bit more fashion/hip, have a look at Nike Air Max 95/97/98 or Nike Vapormax or Nike Air Force One.

I have some Nike Air Force One that I use as my 'mooching around town' trainers. I have some Nike Air Max that I sometimes use in the gym (depending on what my programme is that day) but I also like for walking in the park or mooching in town. My Nike MetCon4s are pure gym only trainers (for weightlifting/strongman and HIIT/bootcamp). I also have some Adidas Stella McCartney that are pure gym trainers (HIIT/bootcamp).

I have some Veja with velcro fastenings. I love the velcro but the shoes were a bugger to break in.

Then for smarter/more grown up days, I have some Paul Smith leather Basso trainers. I LOVE these trainers so much but they were also a bit tough to break in. Worth it in the end though. I always get lots of compliments when I wear them.

Your best bet might be to head over to zen Brogue’s blog. She is an expert on trainers and will very likely have reviewed all of them 😀
