What are the cool kids wearing jewellery wise?

It's my dds 21st soon (I know, but it's still a thing in our family) and she's hinted that she'd like a piece of jewellery. Now I remember asking for a locket for mine and parents bought me one that I frankly hated (and was surprised as it wasn't their style either) but I kept it. I don't want her to have the same disappointment. She has quite simple chic taste, not into Pandora or nomination, probably like a necklace. What I like at 60 is probably not what she likes at 21, so where and what do I need to look for? Looked on etsy already, nothing that inspires.

I think it's easy to go wrong.
I'd suggest a shopping trip and lunch for her to have a look and show you a few bits she likes. If she wants a suprise you can go back and get something you know she loves.

I have a little brushed gold plated A n the Arne Jacobsen font which I got in Copenhagen and LOVE. I got the gold chain from a jeweler when I got home and wear it every day. You can get them online here;

Missoma have jewellery which can be personalised.

Not sure where you are but my sister gets her sterling silver jewellery from a shop called Skinny Wrists in Bournemouth who have a website, they can engrave their jewellery.

She doesn't wear bangles. Would only buy gold or silver. Actually, there's a very high end designer craft fair on Saturday, I'll have a look there. Sadly, she only home for a bit and I'm back to work so no chance for a day out. Alternatively, she covets my Skagen watch, I could get her one of those.

I love your suggestion of getting her a watch like yours. If she likes your watch let her chose something from skagen and if still in budget, get it engraved.
It's perfect and lovely that you will have something similar without it being matchy and twee

Monica vinadar has some gorgeous pieces.

Another one for Missoma here. Love their roman collection!

I would HATE to be bought anything that I would be expected to like and wear regularly, by anyone, including DH. Would much rather choose my own thing.
Even if she likes your Skagen watch, she might like another one from the range slightly more. I'd take her shopping, even if it means she doesn't get a surprise on the day.

Gold hoops.

Don't buy vermeil aka plated as mentioned above.

I bought a pair at a fair recently. They're vintage and very on trend. Only 9ct though, 18ct would be nicer.

I echo previous posters re checking out recipients taste
I love antique n yellow gold
DD loves modern n white gold or silver
For a significant birthday I ordered a set of bespoke bangles in silver with diamonds - not my taste but I have similar in yellow gold

BusterGonad · 28/07/2020 07:28

I'd go with the watch idea. Jewellery would date quicker but a watch she's liked for ages won't.

Catherine Zoraida has some lovely bits and pieces

You say yourself that it's difficult to choose jewellery for someone else - don't make the same mistake your parents did. Let her choose.
