Chin hair ..... any tips please it's getting worse !

Tinkerbellx · 12/04/2019 09:58

I remember my mum plucking this one long chin hair she would sometimes get and thinking please never let that happen to me !
Then obv I got one and served me right I guess .
So I plucked it .
And then again .
And then there was some more .
So now about 7 years down the line I'll admit I'm a little obsessed .
I look into the magnifying mirror every day and pluck the tiniest beginnings and sometimes longer of chin hairs . Anything between 2 and 20 .
I once tried a wax strip and all it did was remove the healthy fine downy hair and leave behind the thick ones I'd usually pluck .
Lazer sounds expensive ?
Would a cream be any better or would I be encouraging full beard growth !
I'm 48 btw so assuming I'm perimenopausal .

Any tips most welcome 🙏
Tia

Feeling your pain. My first appeared at 41. I was horrified. And now I’m constantly feeling for them. Should invest in tweezers. My eyebrow threading lady said it’s our body reminding us we are in our 40s Grin.

Daddylonglegs1965 · 12/04/2019 10:30

I had the odd one in my mid to late 40’s every few months but at about 51/52 they went berserk and one could grow to nearly a centimetre almost overnight or before I noticed them. At almost 54 I am still at the plucking stage and dreading it getting any worse. I look in the magnifying mirror two or three times a day for them. Watching with interest.

pintsizeprincess · 12/04/2019 10:42

Watching with interest too I'm 44 and the sprouters started about 3 years ago. So sick of spending ages every morning with the tweezers and magnifying mirror. I've tried hot wax and ended up picking bits of wax off my chin for days but it didn't get rid of any. One of my fears, stupid I know is to have to go into hospital for something and not have access to my mirror and end up like the beard lady with people staring. 😂

MysweetAudrina · 12/04/2019 10:42

Tweezers in the car glove compartment and pluck at the lights on the way to work is how I deal with them.

autismadviceneeded · 12/04/2019 10:44

I’ve had these since my twenties as have pcos
Tried IPL but it was expensive and only helped for a short while. I have to pluck them every day and I’m so self conscious

TitianaTitsling · 12/04/2019 10:51

They are so deep and strong! Nothing will work waxing, threading, plucking Nair and they are white so l don't think electrolysis will work?

Lellochip · 12/04/2019 10:54

Electrolysis will work on white hairs, it's laser/IPL that won't

TitianaTitsling · 12/04/2019 11:41

Oh thanks lello!

pisspants · 12/04/2019 11:51

I also have a pair of decent tweezers (not all can do chin hair at its earliest stages!) and pluck in the car. Get a really good light in there so can see them early. Mine have a tendency to become ingrown and start off a bit like blackheads. If I give them a little squeeze it can help a tiny bit emerge which is then just about pluckable!!

AnnaMagnani · 12/04/2019 11:57

Electrolysis. Really really works.

I did Laser and eventually you just end up with the same hair but white.

Electrolysis gets rid.

Gingerkittykat · 12/04/2019 15:57

I shave, but my hair is fine and blonde so no issues with stubble or ingrown hairs.

I'll need to look into electrolysis since I can't have lasers since the hair is fair.

I did have a professional wax once which worked well, home wax was a disaster.

EngagedAgain · 12/04/2019 16:37

As you say you are now getting up to 20 I'd go for electrolysis if you get more. It may have levelled out now though. I don't have many, but I pluck with tweezers the thicker ones, and run over with a tiny shaver thing. On a thread here once someone said the reason they seem to suddenly appear is because they grow like a coiled spring, then come out. Yes more noticeable in a car mirror and annoying when one spots a long hair on route somewhere, and no tweezers! Especially if too short to pull out without.

wannabebetter · 12/04/2019 16:40

I use the wax that you peel off (rather than strips) and do mine while I'm doing my moustache (FML) Blush

Yippeeayeyeah · 12/04/2019 16:41

I’m 33 and I wake up some mornings with inch long chin hairs! No matter how many times I pluck the buggers out they keep reappearing aahhhh!

dollybird · 12/04/2019 20:19

I have a facial epilator that I use for chin hairs. Have had it about 9 years now and am 44. It changed my life! I used to use cream every 2-3 days but still felt bristly in between and it made my skin sore. I use the epilator about once a week, the baby fine hairs are still there, it just gets rid of the thick white ones. Only change the battery about every 6 months. One of the best things I've ever bought.

Tinkerbellx · 12/04/2019 21:43

Dolly bird the epilator sounds great .
Can you please tell us which one you use ?
Thanks everyone else ..... crikey it's actually quite good to realise I'm not in the minority ! X

Has no one recommended Phillips Lumea yet? They are brilliant. I think mine was about £240 from £400.

happyhillock · 12/04/2019 22:11

I shave mine not every day twice a week

Articulateforme · 12/04/2019 22:13

Has anyone got a decent magnifying mirror that would fit in a makeup bag??

PengThePenguin · 12/04/2019 22:19

Consider yourself lucky (ish) I'm 26 and I've been plucking my beard hairs for a good few years now! Blush recently invested in the Phillips Lumea laser zapping machine and so far (only done two treatments), I have zero beard regrowth, which is basically a miracle! Would highly recommend but it is pricey unfortunately.

GetOffTheRoof · 12/04/2019 22:28

How did you buggers get to your 40s?! I was barely 30 when mine started!

Yes yes to the Lumea. Life changing. Not supposed to work on the white hairs, but it seems to.

78percentLindt · 12/04/2019 22:34

Electrolysis. Very few of my chin hairs needed more than 1 treatment. Some of the ones on my upper lip needed a bit more treatment.
Wish I had done it years before.

GriseldaChop · 12/04/2019 22:36

I've got similar issues and have heard some people mentioning the JML flawless finish as a cheaper, good alternative. I'm scared if I start shaving I'll get a beard, has anyone any experience of the jml one?

JuniorAsparagus · 12/04/2019 22:39

I have one of those Flawless things from JML. Use it every 2-3 days.
Anyone ever tried a NoNo?

EngagedAgain · 12/04/2019 22:39

I was in my 20's I think when I first noticed the upper lip hair, but I'm not sure it was really all that bad. Then once you start doing things you have to continue. I first used facial bleach, then noticed hair still there only white! Then wax, which came in a tin, you had to heat on the hob. Then I used wax strips, but made lip sore. For years now I pluck the course ones, and use small battery shaver over the rest. Finally found my solution ☺️
