Chin hair ..... any tips please it's getting worse !

Tinkerbellx · 12/04/2019 09:58

I remember my mum plucking this one long chin hair she would sometimes get and thinking please never let that happen to me !
Then obv I got one and served me right I guess .
So I plucked it .
And then again .
And then there was some more .
So now about 7 years down the line I'll admit I'm a little obsessed .
I look into the magnifying mirror every day and pluck the tiniest beginnings and sometimes longer of chin hairs . Anything between 2 and 20 .
I once tried a wax strip and all it did was remove the healthy fine downy hair and leave behind the thick ones I'd usually pluck .
Lazer sounds expensive ?
Would a cream be any better or would I be encouraging full beard growth !
I'm 48 btw so assuming I'm perimenopausal .

Any tips most welcome 🙏
Tia

OP mine is an Emjoi but not sure if they still make it. It was only £15. Just looked on Amazon and can't see anything that looks quite the same, but I'm sure they all work pretty much the same.

What’s the Lumea, is it a laser type thing?

EngagedAgain · 12/04/2019 22:44

I've not found shaving with a battery type shaver a problem with stubble or anything like that. I wouldn't start using a wet razor.

goingtotown · 13/04/2019 00:03

JML Flawless from Argos £20, it’s about the size of a big lipstick.I keep it in my makeup tray & use it every other day, it’s brilliant.

marmiteloversunite · 13/04/2019 08:09

Lost my hair due to chemo recently. First hair to grow back is the goddamn hair on my chin!!Confused

lanbro · 13/04/2019 08:17

Yes to Lumea, I bought one after trying the NoNo, which is just awful! Use the Lumea over my whole body, have gone from shaving my legs daily in the summer to only doing them once in a blue moon.

FloofyDoof · 13/04/2019 10:01

I have one of those little springy thingamys, and I have tweezers and mirrors everywhere (bedside table, coffee table drawer, handbag, etc) so if I notice one I can pull the bugger out straight away instead of doing that fiddly poky thing to keep track of it, that I can't resist doing, even though it just results in a sharp ended shiny black hair like a wire, sticking straight out of a bright red patch of skin, on my pasty white chin. Just to make them even more glaringly obvious.

I just shave my top lip, because of course the hair there is lighter coloured, less thick and I'm too lazy to go get threaded often enough, and I use retin-a so waxing and creams are out.

I’m in my 30s and get several long, dark chin hairs

I have a laser removal device (Tria) so probably need to start using it again (I’ve just moved house so it’ll be a miracle if I can find it)

GriseldaChop · 13/04/2019 13:58

I've been and bought the JML flawless finish this morning, just had a go and first impressions are it's great! Feels smooth and no stubble or anything as yet. Smile

Embracethechaos · 13/04/2019 14:02

Chin hairs in your 40s, I've got them in my 20s. SadFirst moustache now chin. My Grandma doesn't do much self care and has a full on beard.

EngagedAgain · 15/04/2019 16:09

Does anyone else have that annoying thing when a thick hair has started to come through, and it's not quite long enough for tweezers to grab, or it breaks off shorter again. Then have to wait a few more days.

aweedropofsancerre · 15/04/2019 16:13

i spotted rogue hairs in my early 40s and they got worse....truly awful so I get my upper lip and chin threaded every three weeks and sometimes my full face. Does the trick for me and its quick and cheap!

Letthemysterybe · 15/04/2019 17:43

My lovely 5 year old announced yesterday that I was growing a beard! I’m determined to sort out my chin hairs while I’m still young enough to see them. So I guess it is laser or electrolysis for me, as I pluck now, but can foresee a time where I won’t be able to see them to get them and i’ll Be an old lady with a beard. Is there a hair removal section on the mumsnet reviews!

PlaymobilPirate · 15/04/2019 18:31

I've just bought a magnifying mirror. I'm much more beardy than I thought!!

FreeButtonBee · 15/04/2019 18:36

Lumea has been great for me. Also using acid exfoliator (like pixi glow tonic or P50) means they don’t get stuck under the skin. Need to use lumea every week for about 2 months to really zap the buggers then monthly or so after that. It’s also been amazing in my bikini line - a quick swish with the razor before hols/swimming and it’s presentable (although I don’t take much off). Am concentrating on under arms now and may try to give legs 2 full goes before my holiday in May but they do take along time

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 15/04/2019 18:55

I pluck every few days. I get very bad ingrown hairs so use facial discs of fine grade sandpaper to help release the hairs. I have to be very careful not to not overdo the sand paper.

Noname99 · 15/04/2019 19:01

I have a springy thing - use everyday. Take 2/3 mins and really works once you get the hang of it. I was amazed to be honest. It was only £2.

NicoAndTheNiners · 15/04/2019 19:03

@myshinywhiteteeth what are these sandpaper things? I think I need them!

Ofthread · 15/04/2019 19:11

I haven't got any yet but that doesn't stop me checking all the time and checking other women's chins. Friend recommends the spring thing.

JustHereForThePooStoriesFella · 15/04/2019 19:27

I’m 36 and plagued with dark lip, neck and chin hairs. Oh, and sideburns. It’s a curse.

Finally gave in and bought a Lumea. Did my first session last night on face/chin, and also my pits. Hoping to get good results. Must start in on my legs too.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 15/04/2019 19:58

NicoAndTheNiners

Mine are called 'exfoliating hair removal pads' from sure health and beauty. I use the smaller facial pads not the larger ones from the pack.

I used wax strips for my upper lip and the ingrowing hairs were terrible.

I've tried bleaching but just get a white beard and moustache plus very sore upper lip.

NicoAndTheNiners · 15/04/2019 20:02

Thank you.

SevenSeasofRye · 15/04/2019 20:05

Electrolysis, but make sure you go to someone who is a member of the Institute of Electrolysis. There are a lot of poorly trained/inept practitioners out there.

EntirelyAnonymised · 15/04/2019 20:12

Hell YES to the Lumea. I zap almost every hair on my body with mine. Had it for a few years now and it is marvellous. Best beauty buy ever.

Rumbletum2 · 15/04/2019 20:15

Ah. Rogue whiskers. Love them.

I once tried to pluck one with slightly blunt tweezers and managed to CURL it, like you curl ribbon with scissors for a present 🎁
