Chin hair ..... any tips please it's getting worse !

I remember my mum plucking this one long chin hair she would sometimes get and thinking please never let that happen to me !
Then obv I got one and served me right I guess .
So I plucked it .
And then again .
And then there was some more .
So now about 7 years down the line I'll admit I'm a little obsessed .
I look into the magnifying mirror every day and pluck the tiniest beginnings and sometimes longer of chin hairs . Anything between 2 and 20 .
I once tried a wax strip and all it did was remove the healthy fine downy hair and leave behind the thick ones I'd usually pluck .
Lazer sounds expensive ?
Would a cream be any better or would I be encouraging full beard growth !
I'm 48 btw so assuming I'm perimenopausal .

Any tips most welcome 🙏
Tia

Threading was the answer for me.

What's the 'springy thing' mentioned by a couple of PP on here pls?

RussellSprout · 16/04/2019 12:54

Watching with interest - any tweezer recommendations ladies?

Deathraystare · 17/04/2019 13:59

I tried the No No. Worked on legs and arms. Ignored my face! By that I mean it just did not want to know!! Buggering thing! That's what I got it for!!!

Elllllle · 17/04/2019 14:07

Okay stop the press ..... the Lumea works in white/blonde chin hairs?! Is this true???

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 18/04/2019 16:58

No, it works best on dark hair/pale skin. It needs the contrast. The dark hair absorbs the light energy. If the hair and surrounding skin are similar in colour, it won’t work as the energy won’t be concentrated where it is required.

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 18/04/2019 17:00

(That goes for dark hair/dark skin or light hair/light skin)

RavenLG · 18/04/2019 17:03

31 and had chin hairs for years. Started around 21 maybe. I have about 6-10 that are frequent. The most regular are two thick black ones that always seem really deep. One on my chin underneath and one on my neck. They’re bastards but I do get satisfaction from plucking them (so does DP)

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/04/2019 17:20

I think the springy thing is this type of product:

www.amazon.co.uk/Epistick-original-facial-hair-epilator/dp/B004LNXA0Y/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_lp_img_2?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&refRID=KR1FNT5Y8CG22GC4FD6S

I bought one but haven't used it yet as the thought of it pulling out multiple hairs at once makes me cringe! Also, you seem to have to bend it one way & then the other. Can anyone advise on using it - technique, level of pain, etc?

RavenLG · 18/04/2019 21:52

I’ve used to springy thing. It’s great for peach fuzz and is a similar pain to plucking. It’s not go great on thicker darker hairs but I use it on top lip near my side burns and chin. The technique is difficult to explain you have to sort of push up and twist outwards. There’s some good videos on YouTube like this

SummerPlace · 19/04/2019 06:53

If you're plucking, buy the very best tweezers you can get. I have found Tweezerman Tweezers to be excellent. Nice and grippy, so the coarse chin hairs can't fruitlessly though the tips.

SummerPlace · 19/04/2019 07:00

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I realise chin chairs are vile little buggers. My body was almost completely hairless - except for head - and I never had to shave my legs and very seldom my underarms. Then, mid forties, these horrible coarse, generally dark, as opposed to my other, fair hairs, suddenly appeared and flourished.

I got through adolescence with a blemish free skin, then in my early 20s I found some cystic acne and grey hairs at the same time.

JenniferJareau · 19/04/2019 07:06

I second Tweezermans. They are how I cope.

mrsgandy · 19/04/2019 07:18

I get an odd one but I have big eyebrows. Occasionally I have great fun pulling a super long eye brow hair out .

Inacountrygarden · 19/04/2019 07:28

Another chin hair sufferer here. I usually use tweezers and a magnifying mirror and live in dread of them getting out of hand. I've recently bought a Phillips Lumea and have a question......do you ladies shave the area to be treated before using the Lumea? I don't like the thought of shaving my chin/upper lip first, although no problem with my legs/underarms

Cheekyfeckery · 19/04/2019 08:34

I also have a Lumea and it’s made a huge difference very quickly on my facial hair.

I use an epilator first. Or waxing. I wouldn’t shave because if it grows back (which it may well do the first few times) it would be bristly.

Cheekyfeckery · 19/04/2019 08:36

Simplyhuman illuminated magnifying mirrors - expensive but great.

This is pricey stuff but I’m getting old(er) and I want to tackle it now. Getting older is an expensive business I’m discovering.

JuniorAsparagus · 19/04/2019 08:41

I have been really embarrassed by my chin hair for the last year or so. This thread has cheered me up no end as I am 67.
