Sequin, sparkly dress/outfit ideas...please help

I'm invited to a summer party where the dress code is sparkle. I've already got dresses I need to return and soon the postage will cost more than the outfit! I'm mid 40's, tall and a generous 14/16 with shoulder length brown hair. The majority of dresses have shoestring straps and I definitely need a bra! I'm fairly athletic so not too worried about legs and arms being on show but so many of the dresses I'm finding are a bit too clubby. If anyone fancies an internet search or has seen something whilst out shopping which fits the bill, please would you mind telling me where this mystical 'unicorn' type dress is hiding (max budget £150).......

Its a bit over your price range (£199) but am a bit obsessed with this:

Quiz usually have sparkly dresses with sleeves I got one whilst pregnant iirc

Babyfoal · 11/04/2019 20:43

Have you looked at Boohoo? Put maxi dress into the search. They are surprisingly good and ridiculously cheap.

InterchangeableEmma · 11/04/2019 20:46

I'd go for a simple, elegant dress in a block colour and add plenty of sparkly jewellery TBH. maybe sparkly shoes too.

InterchangeableEmma · 11/04/2019 20:48

What sort of colours do you like? I'll try and post a couple of examples.

also in several other colours and beautiful!

Thanks Pigeon, unfortunately that ones out of stock :( I’ve tried boohoo and quiz but not found anything I’m crazy about (will take another look though). I’m not sure the halter neck style would suit my broad hips but it’s a pretty dress. I could go for a plain dress as back up but it’s a close friend And I think she’d appreciate it if I followed the brief quite closely. I like gold, navy and red (not all together!) I think a Bardot or scoop/v neck suits my shape best. I really, really appreciate your help as I hadn’t come across either of those dresses.

A bit over your price range but BEHOLD!!!! I have the rose gold cocktail dress and it is heaven... I wore it at home sequin shoes on Christmas day and felt like a glass of prosecco Grin www.bombshellhq.com/collections/sequin-dresses

“Name Change” I keep looking at the Bombshell ones and trying to persuade myself that it’s ok to spend that amount on a dress. Especially a sparkly one! Is the fit true to size?

OP posts:
jenthehen · 11/04/2019 21:34

That’s a very pretty dress Mooey and pretty colour but I think I’d need it to be either just above the knee or calf length or below to suit me.

jenthehen · 11/04/2019 21:35

Mad vixen I can’t see your recommendation, or did you mean one of the above dresses?

Madvixen · 11/04/2019 21:36

That's odd. Hang on and I'll find the proper link

Hopefully this one works. My dress was red and black but they have hundreds of different ones that should fit the bill for you

namechangedbutneedadvice · 11/04/2019 21:40

I know what you mean jenthehen I balked at the price originally. I have a few now though and this sequin one was a Christmas gift. They actually come out a size bigger I think, am normally a 12 but am a 10 in a Bombshell. I just feel amazing and gorgeous in it... worth every penny. Oh made in Britain too. Can you tell I'm a fan? pisspawpatrol · 11/04/2019 21:41

There were some lovely sparkly champagne and rose gold sequin dresses in Next yesterday.

jenthehen · 11/04/2019 21:45

Mad vixen Thanks, Id never heard of that brand (will have a proper look on a bigger screen). Are they a reasonable quality and good for returns etc?

OP posts:
jenthehen · 11/04/2019 21:46

Thanks PPP is forgotten about Next!

I’ve lost track of whether Debenhams is ok to buy online from or not, but their Jenny Packham range is pretty sparkly. This is lovely:

The quality is fab and it's covered by the usual Amazon returns policy. I felt like a very sparkly Jessica Rabbit in mine 😀
