Hair dye help please

I've bought 2 box hair dyes which is slightly darker than my current colour (brown).

The top of my hair is slightly lighter than the mid and lengths of my hair and each time I've dyed my hair they've never blended in.

So I've bought a slightly darker colour and I'm going to use 2 boxes instead of one as I have long hair.

Do I leave them on for longer than the recommenced 20 minutes? I really need my hair to be one colour and can't afford to visit a salon as I'm on maternity leave.

I used to box-dye my hair when it was waist length, I used 2 boxes, put the first on roots & top where it was lighter, waited 10 mins or so then put the second one on the lengths then left it 20 mins. This was about 10 years back though and no idea if development times are still the same.

That was what I was thinking, I just want to make sure I'm not going to do more damage first Confused

There’s no reason your hair will be damaged however I always find that box dyes come up a bit darker than you expect so make sure you’re happy with that!
