Cleaning old paste jewellery

Dd ans I have just been rummaging through my jewellery boxes and she’s decided that she wants to wear some of my old stuff for prom, only it’s all about 20-30 years old! Is it possible to get it back to the high sparkle it once had?
And can anyone remember what it is that you dissolve and pour on when you have your jewellery stood on aluminium foil to clean it?
I know I should know this stuff but rather than rely on google was hoping for some tried and tested tips please!

I would put it in hot soapy water if it is just 80s costume jewellery. Maybe even in a net bag and put it through the dishwasher.

I seem to think there’s something that you can do with vodka or gin but knowing my luck it’ll get absorbed and she’ll stick of alcohol!!!

Toothpaste is great for shining up jewellery. Rubit on gently , leave for a while and gently rub off. Comes up sparkling.

Well with a mixture of bicarbonate of soda, salt, foil and toothpaste everything is sparkling again - thank you!
