Shoes to wear with navy cigarette pants

Having existed solely in dresses for the last decade, I've finally embraced trousers and purchased two lovely pairs of navy cigarette pants. My problem is shoes. I live in ankle boots in the winter and sandals in the summer, but neither really work with these trousers. I have heels that work, but my job involves quite a bit of walking so I'm looking for flats - casual but not too casual. Not trainers.

Any suggestions? I'm considering a tan slingback maybe? They need to be wide fit.

I also have wide feet and recently bought a pair of nude sandals (low block heel) in Primark. They'll only last the summer but they were £12 and didn't hurt my toes - result!

thedevilinablackdress · 08/04/2019 15:45

Brogues in black or brown? Have a look at Clarks.

peachgreen · 08/04/2019 15:51

I was thinking something a bit more spring-y than brogues. Will try Primark but I'm a bit anti-cheap shoes (just because I wear them a lot!).

I have a similar style from Gabor last year which would also work - mine are black but the new stock has lighter shades. They were around £100 - not sure of the exact amount as I purchased them in the Netherlands. But they also work with my stupidly wide foot (yes it is just one of my feet )

Tan loafers? Gives a nice flash of the ankle, but are sturdy enough for proper everyday wear.

Or something like the Boden Octavia loafers with a pointed toe if you want a smarter shape?

Slingbacks always end up falling off my feet, I couldn't wear them all day.

Anothertempusername · 08/04/2019 16:19

Tan loafers or navy / leopard print ballet pumps are my go to!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 08/04/2019 16:24

There's also lots of backless loafers around at the moment which are a bit more Spring-like and airy but still smart.

WineIsMyCarb · 08/04/2019 22:37

Could you share a link to your navy cigarette trousers pls? Been looking for ages!

Baxdream · 08/04/2019 23:07

I have these and they're really smart and so comfortable!

@WineIsMyCarb They're plus size so may not work for you!

I actually bought this longer length as I'm quite tall and didn't want them so short:

Thanks for the suggestions, all. My favourites are the ones @Kazplus2 suggested so I'm going to try them on!

Also @Anothertempusername you've reminded me that my leopard print ballet flats were my favourite shoes ever back in the 00s so I might also look out for a pair of those!

@Gentlemanwiththistledownhair Bowden's shoes are gorgeous and exactly what I'm looking for in general, but alas, they don't do wide fit. (Love your name btw!)

Boat shoes or moccasins are a good shout with that kind of trouser. I've been wearing the Schuh version for the past couple of years but I have to re-buy each year as they fall to pieces. Going to get some Jones ones this year and hope they last a bit better.

How do they fit OP? I am an 18/20 but with slimmish thighs and all these trousers (which I love) look like jodphurs on me nowadays.

Anyway I wear my old ones with Clarks Couture Bloom ballet flats. I have them in three colours including a lovely blue-grey which would look great with navy. They also do navy I think.

Very comfy and no need for tights or socks.

I have some similar trousers and usually wear with ballet flats or brogues. Sling backs sound good but I always find them a little uncomfortable. I have a pair of Boden ballet flats in leopard and they are really comfy!

peachgreen · 09/04/2019 09:42

@DontCallMeCharlotte I had the same problem and ordered about a million different pairs but these were the only ones that worked! Not too loose around the thigh and with stretch in the waist so they fit nicely and lie flat. They're very comfy but smart on.

I have some navy cigarette trousers and I wear them with pale pink Superga but you've said no trainers. If I was aiming for a smarter look I'd wear some nice pointy Geox flats that I have in a pale biscuity brown. Or some nice flat pointy slingbacks in silver, beige, brown, grey, red, yellow....

Teddybear45 · 09/04/2019 10:27

What are your legs like? Honestly brogues / flats with narrow trousers only suit thin legs / calves. If your legs are more muscular I would suggest heels even if they are a wedge.

peachgreen · 09/04/2019 13:12

@WhereAreWeNow They're lovely, thanks! Yes I was looking for slingbacks but no joy yet.

@Teddybear45 If they were shorter I'd agree with you but these are long and look fine with flats. I'm plus size so my legs aren't skinny but they're slim in comparison with the rest of me and in pretty good shape.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 09/04/2019 13:19

Thanks peachgreen. Have ordered the Meghan ones as I'm shorter .

(and Teddybear45 this length with flats looks fine on me as I have a "very nicely turned ankle" I'll have you know Grin)

peachgreen · 09/04/2019 15:37

@DontCallMeCharlotte Fab, I hope you like them! I was really impressed with the quality (I assume they're the same as mine, they seem to be).

I like brogues or loafers with slim fitting trousers. Currently lusting after these beautiful white loafers from Grenson.

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 09/04/2019 22:01

Pants? Pants?
Do you mean trousers?
Please don't say pants is now going to be accepted to mean trousers in the uk Confused
The Brexit fuck up I can bury my head in the sand and ignore but I can't ignore this!
I am picturing you walking around in your pants (yes actual pants) figuring out which shoes match!
