Recommendations to do own nails

Can anyone recommend anything to do your own gel nails or polish that doesn’t chip easily. Having a baby means it’s been a bit hard to get time to go to salon and the upkeep so looking for an easier solution to do my own. I have been feeling a bit yuck since having DC and looking for little things I can do to make myself feel and look a bit better

I've never done my own gels so can't comment on that, but I think a decent top coat is the key to prolonging the life of a manicure. I really rate China Glaze Fast Forward. Quick drying, so perfect for a new mum imo. It's about £7 a bottle from Sally's.

Thank you, I’ll give it a go x

Essie Gel Couture polishes. They're about £9 a pop but I promise they are SO worth it. I wear them all the time and I get a lot of nail compliments. You do need to use the gel top coat. Goes on lovely and dries fast. They're often on offer at Boots so watch out for that.

I use the Sensationail peel-off gels and they look very professional and last about 10 days without chipping. The starter kit is a bit pricey ( I got mine secondhand) but compared to repeat salon visits well worth the layout. Best bit is being able to peel it off rather than use loads of chemicals.

Sensationail Gel polishes and lamp or if you're looking for something you don't have to cure then Ciaté Gelology polishes are amazingly chip resistant, plus they have so many gorgeous shades.

I’ve ditched home and salon gels for Primark falsies. Loads easier and my nails suffer less.

I got a lamp and gels
From eBay and never been back to a salon again so much cheaper. I use HNM got a whole kit including lamp a few colours top coat base coat and lots more tools and bits are fab and I do my mums now too saves so much money and waiting in a nail shop! 💅🏻💅🏻

Mummylou83 · 07/04/2019 20:21

@ivegotthisyeah is it easy enough to do? Is there a kit I can buy or is it just a normal lamp and the polish’s separate id need to buy? Not sure where to start

Second the Essie Gel polishes. I can get 7-10 days chip free wear and they remove easily with regular nail polish remover.

Loubyloulou88 · 08/04/2019 04:42

Yes Mummylou83, the Sensationail starter kits have everything you need (including lamp) and are often on offer in Boots for half price.

I like Mavala nail polishes. They come out thin but if you do one coat and let it dry completely and then another they don’t chip for ages.

I wipe the edge/tip which helps polish last longer and I use OPI base and top coat.
