Highlights or balayage?

Can someone explain the difference in result after having a full head of highlights vs balayage please?

I have a very grown out balayage, my stylist recommended to go for full head highlights this time, with a root tint after if needed.

He’s the most senior stylist at a renowned salon so I trust his skills, but at the same time I’m not sure if that’s what I need?

I don’t want my hair have fine stripes of highlights near the roots as my natural colour is brown so it could look a bit naff. Also my current blonde hair is getting a bit brassy, so worried about still having brassy strands after the salon visit from the hair that is left out from the highlights.

I’ve got highlights because the balayage was that grown out it needed to start again from somewhere and I didn’t see the pint in the starting point being so low down. I think I’m getting toner next time to keep the brash at bay rather than any more highlights and just let nature do it’s thing
