I need to smarten up this dress for a wedding!

So basically I've bought this dress as I'm really struggling to find a good outfit for my size.

Currently very curvy due to yo-yo dieting.

I'm worried that it's too drab for a wedding and could really do with some advice from someone with more style than me for how to glam it up a bit.

I need shoes/sandals to be flat and comfy.

I do have a gorgeous crystal handbag though not sure it will go...

Please help!

Not a crystal bag with that dress

Unstructured jacket/blazer statement necklace and a clutch bag that matches one of the colours in the dress

kk66 · 06/04/2019 17:03

I would put sparkly beading along the neck line and/or the hem.

A big statement necklace

A fake fur wrap

Amazing shoes

Maybe not all at once

PurpleDaisies · 06/04/2019 17:03

I really like it. I’d look for a mustard yellow bag and sandals.

WhiteWine4TheLady · 06/04/2019 17:05

I’d pick out that yellow in the dress for shoes and wear a standout piece of jewellery.

SunnySomer · 06/04/2019 17:05

Shoes - I would probably wear flat slingbacks

seven201 · 06/04/2019 17:05

I saw that dress in the shop today - it's lovely. Gold accessories if you want a bit of sparkle otherwise a mustard.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 06/04/2019 17:06

I like it but please don't put a sparkly bag. Agree with @PurpleDaisies-try and find mustard shoes and bag.
Big necklace. nothing sparkly as that dress is not sparkly

gingercat02 · 06/04/2019 17:12

I bought these to go with a black dress with coloured flowers on

Really pretty on and comfy

Lovely dress. Don't wear a mustard bag AND shoes. Far too matchy matchy. As PP said have a standout accessory (shoes or bag) in one of the colours from the dress, so red/orange, yellow or green. Green is the most fashionable but should be able to get something you like in one of those colours. Other accessories more neutral. Delicate necklace with that neckline, big dangly earrings if they suit you.

hibbidydibbity · 06/04/2019 17:53

Wow, some great ideas. I know you're right about the bag (though I love it so!)

I like the idea of green or yellow shoes.

Thank you x

Nude pointed flats would also work well (and you could wear a lot again, if yellow isn't your thing)

If you'll be outside then I agree a blazer would look great - also versatile

Hair up, big earrings (i'm not a fan of big boobs + big necklace, personally) Big chunky bracelet in a bright colour

Small bag could be black, yellow/mustard or even green. Maybe any colour actually :-)

Red lipstick if you're comfortable in it

hibbidydibbity · 06/04/2019 18:10

I may have just ordered a cute red Julian McDonald Clutch and some red Dune sandals to try...!

There's some fantastic resin jewellery around also to jazz it up a bit.

mrsjackrussell · 06/04/2019 19:31

Something like this would look good if you've got red shoes. uk.accessorize.com/view/product/uk_catalog/acc_2,acc_2.3/6826236000

That dress is so pretty!! I really like the idea of picking a colour out, although I'd go with the lavander/blue colour or the red as from your latest post I guess you do too. You're going to look lovely!

hibbidydibbity · 07/04/2019 07:15

Thank you for the really lovely and helpful comments xxx
I'm a bit down on myself as I wanted to lose weight before the wedding but hopefully now I'll have a bit more confidence.
You guys are an absolute wealth of knowledge to a short chubby Mummy who has forgotten about fashion! Blush

Fatface have some gorgeous dresses at the moment. I fell in love with this but it would be impossible to BF in so I can't get it 😔

I saw your dress in store as well and it's lovely. I'd definitely go for mustard bag and shoes. I know they aren't for everyone but I think Swedish Hasbeens would look great with that dress! Something like these:

With a cross body bag, great hair and red lipstick!

Yourinacultcallyourdad · 07/04/2019 08:20

babydarling they have that pattern in an off the shoulder style but it also works pulled up to the shoulders as short sleeves would be easier to breast feed in.

Love the outfit op!
