Where do you buy professional and stylish plus size?

I’m a size 20 and I have a professional job. I wear dresses to work EVERY day. Doesn’t have to be dresses as I feel I’m in a rut. Skirts and tops would be nice. I feel like formal suits make me look fatter but maybe I haven’t met the right suit. I like a sleeve. Not too short. I’d spend up to £150 on an outfit (excluding underwear etc).

Where does one buy such clothes? I usually get mine from John Lewis but I knew there might be a problem when the review for a dress I liked said “my 90 year old mother wore this for her birthday lunch and loved it’. I’m early 40s.

Thank you.

I’m not sure about SimplyBe. I bought a blazer through Next from there (the edge to edge blazer) and it was very cheap looking.
In fairness to them it was very cheap so I wasn’t surprised.

Boden?

TheFatberg · 06/04/2019 06:40

Navabi - they always have deals on.

Nanasueathome · 06/04/2019 06:47

Toast

Watching this as I am in similar situation - although work in design industry so pressure to be a bit 'cool' too. Quality of simply b is terrible - I got a black dress from there and one wash later it's like a nighty!

I tend to go for slim leg black trousers, top from somewhere like autograph and boots/brogues. I search out the best I can find in next and M&S mostly. Not terrible but rarely cutting edge!

LOTR · 06/04/2019 06:57

'Yours' has a good range of items. I use the dresses bought from there for work. They do great shoes too! Xx

Simply Be can be a bit hit and miss - some makes are fine, others are cheap and nasty. Try Boden, Next, Monsoon, M & S Autograph, and surprisingly Wallis sometimes has something good.

Pepperberry by bravissimo go up to an 18, but because they are cut for bigger boobs I find I can geverally go down a size. They have a really good range of tops/blouses/dresses that all work well for professional looks.

stucknoue · 06/04/2019 07:04

Bravissimo are cut for the curvy so you may be a smaller size. It's my go to as I'm busty.

Otherwise most stores have a plus range - try the personal shopper service at Debenhams

Some Hobbs comes in a size 20.

PaintBySticker · 07/04/2019 07:25

Thank you.

I’ve found in the past that Boden didn’t have much in my size (although I should check again) and I checked the Hobbs website yesterday and they didn’t have a lot.

Will have a proper look at Navabi. First glance was that some of it looked like ‘clothes for fat people’ but some looked good.

Will check out the other suggestions too. Thank you.

If there’s anymore they’d be welcome Smile

I’m not that busty. Not compared to my size. I’d say I’m a pear.

There are several shops called Beige which cater for plus size. They are quite dressy and expensive but may be worth a look especially in the sales. Size 20 is normally available everywhere.

CatsinSpace · 07/04/2019 07:33

Have you looked at Anna Scholtz? They have a sale on atm.

Ilovecardigans1980 · 07/04/2019 07:39

Hi, I'm a 22 and buy quite a few things from studio 8 (phase eight's plus size brand). I also like boden, m&s, dorothy perkins curve and oasis curve xxx

Auldspinster · 07/04/2019 21:22

Marina Rinaldi.

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 07/04/2019 21:24

Seasalt

Fantasisa · 07/04/2019 21:31

Monsoon for me

therealladygrantham · 08/04/2019 22:54

Try Artigiano, Wrap, Boden, Navabi, Samoon ( the plus size bit of Gerry Weber), Box 2, Chesca(mostly awful but got the occasional nice thing from there). Also Monsoon, Studio 8 and some M and S as others have said.Good luck.

whatsnewchoochoo · 10/04/2019 22:35

Roman originals - a lot of it is awful but there are some classic work dresses in there

PaintBySticker · 29/04/2019 20:44

Just to update that I ordered a few things from Navabi. Not keeping all of it but happy with what I am keeping. Will keep an eye on other suggestions too.

Thank you.
