Please dress me for a wedding

SuddenBeetE · 04/04/2019 11:00

My best mate from Uni is getting married in July.
Church wedding followed by reception at vv fancy county house type.
There’ll be lots of beautiful, well dressed people there. Models, make up artists, just about famous actors Confused and I don’t want to look the usual scruffy sod that I am.

I never dress up, always in jeans and trainers, and have absolutely no clue what to wear.

I’m 5ft 4, 10-12, ok boobs but shit legs. Very fair, pale red hair and greyish eyes.
I hate wearing dresses really, and can’t wear anything above mid calf due to my pasty legs and skin graft scars that start just below my knee due to an accident I had as a teen. Sad

Please help me! I do absolutely want to go but even thinking about what to wear is making me feel a bit sick.

Perhaps a long legged jumpsuit and heels would work? There are some lovely ones out there in more dressy fabrics and necklines.

Maybe a deep green would suit your colouring?

Dinosforall · 04/04/2019 11:08

I do think that understated is the way forward if you're worried about the cool factor - nothing too 'frilly' IMO.

citychick · 04/04/2019 11:09

Hi OP.
How about a "jumpsuit".
Phase eight have one. I can't attach it but I think it's called the Valentine jumpsuit. It's emerald green in colour.
That'll his your legs and complement your colouring?

Any good?

citychick · 04/04/2019 11:10

Hide your legs. Ugh. Apologies.

Dinosforall · 04/04/2019 11:17

citychick great minds!

Maybe slightly dressier versions of these?

Do you have a budget?

And - only because more mature people tend to be dressier than otherwise - what age group are you dressing to impress?

PazRaz10 · 04/04/2019 11:18

That Phase Eight jumpsuit is stunning!

DirtyDennis · 04/04/2019 11:20

I agree - go for a jumpsuit. I bloody love jumpsuits Grin

I've bought this one for a wedding (and got great advice from MN about shoes). It's got green bits in so would complement your eyes. I've worn it with trainers and a hoody so it's really easy to dress down too.

SuddenBeetE · 04/04/2019 11:24

Budget about £80-100 I suppose? I doubt I’d wear it again. I’m mid 30s but there’ll be from 20s-40s then older family there.

Thanks for the ideas so far. I do like jumpsuits but the length can be tricky I’ve got short legs.

Agree!
Although I'd wear flats and not heels, but that's my preference.
I'm on my phone and it won't let me attach photos but either some emerald green flats or lovely flat dress sandals should do the trick. And a fab pedicure! And a clutch in a contrasting colour and you'll be all set. 👍

Dinosforall · 04/04/2019 11:31

There are lots of midi dresses around at the moment, which seems to be anything from below the knee to just short of the ankle

SymbollocksInteractionism · 06/04/2019 08:33

OP I'm the same boat. Been looking for something to wear to a wedding next week for ages and nothing looks nice on!
I bought a lipsy jump suit in the next sale (Ok ish) and have just panic ordered a cobalt blue jump suit that I am pinning my hopes on (also a redhead so the colour should work well)

Atalune · 06/04/2019 08:39

I would get this elegant and cool with a leather jacket worn just in the shoulders if chilly. Little clutch bag and heels. Get a gel
Manicure in a grey/lilac colour or a simple nude/pink. Go to a make up counter like bobby brown and ask for a flawless look.

It’s also in the sale.

BrilliantYou · 06/04/2019 10:26

Phase Eight have 20% off right now... the Saffina jumpsuit in a deep purple may suit your colouring? Like how it's styled with a block heel sandal too Smile

Atalune · 06/04/2019 14:12

Block heel sandals are a great way to wear heels and have a polished look without the calf ache!

ThankYouDebbie · 06/04/2019 16:19

Can you get to a Cos? The clothes don't generally look great on their website but the fabrics are always gorgeous and I would go slightly edgier with the crowd you described. Here's their summer party edit: www.cosstores.com/en_gbp/women/partywear.html

How are your arms? I'm a similar size, height and colouring to you and would tend to go in the blue/green part of life but I'd never get my arms out so that limits my options.

And don't forget you can get a dress or a jumpsuit taken up depending on the design.

SuddenBeetE · 07/04/2019 17:55

@Betty I love the 2nd link. Going to order and try. Thank you

ThankYouDebbie my arms are Ok, I’d happily wear sleeveless. I don’t have a Cos near me and have always been put off because the models look so tall and angular?
