Please help me grow up a bit

Be gentle, having neither style nor beauty, this is my first venture into this scary land but I need some help if anyone is willing please.

Basically, I get through winter in boots and a fairly decent coat but as soon as the weather picks up, I end up in a hoody and converse.
I'm pushing 40 now and it's getting embarrassing dressing like a teenager but I find hoodies in particular, so handy.

My question is, is there a more grown up version that can still offer a bit of protection from breeze and slight rain but not be too warm or too bulky to shove in a rucksack?

As for shoes, I genuinely have no idea if I should move beyond converse and if so, to what?

I've noticed I get treated more seriously since buying a nicer winter coat and want to upgrade my summer look without losing the practicality.

Hope that makes sense. Thanks if you've read this far. Smile

Are you me? I've never managed to figure this one out either. I refuse to give up my converse though Smile

@IWantMyHatBack Grin Nice to know I'm not alone!

I'm no help but you could be describing me...save for the fact I am 40!

Hopefully someone will be along soon to help.

Cardigans - I’ve got a few lovely ones a couple with hoods, one with a zip. And loafers/deck shoes. I’ve got from timberland as comfy as my cons. Xxxx

For summer I like in flip flops! Also I wear 3/4 bottoms , the light floaty type ones , also I have LOADS! of cardigans for summer, I tend to wear longish ones, I have light floaty ones and couple of warm ones incase it is breezy.
Converse go well with leggings and jeans and tbh in spring I practically live in mine too!
I'm not a massive fan of Primark but I do have some of the trainers as they do lovely colours 😊

Also shawls I have loads of them too as if it too hot and I'm wearing a vest it protects my shoulders (yes I wear sun cream) but I still get paranoid ya been burnt 🥵

gotmychocolateimgood · 01/04/2019 19:58

Birkenstocks are casual. How about a coatigan? Or a chunky knit belted Cardigan. Jersey blazer?

GemmeFatale · 01/04/2019 20:06

Cashmere hoodies? So your usual look just a bit more polished/elevated if you see what I mean.

MigThePig · 01/04/2019 20:34

Some good ideas thank you. I always feel a bit frumpy in cardigans but maybe I'm not trying the right ones.
Cashmere hoodies sound nice, off to look at them.... Smile

What about a jean jacket (a naice one), biker jacket or a trench? I like comfortable loafers to look a bit more put together but have also just bought some red gazelles. Agree with pp about upgrading to cashmere if you need something to stuff in a rucksack.

JaceLancs · 01/04/2019 23:47

I have a variety of short trench style jackets which work well for my shape
