Is this real leather?

I've just bought this jacket, total bargain at £5 from Salvation Army charity shop.

I suppose it doesn't actually matter if it's real leather or not, as it really looks like it, but I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the label, or could tell me a good way to tell faux leather from real?

And while you are at, please feel free to tell me what you think of the jacket itself, I won't take offence!

Ps is it correct that the right way to wear a leather jacket is undone?

Is there a label down the side on the inside ?

Smell it, fake leather doesn't smell like leather. Though there should be a label telling you what fabrics are used in any garment

Turn it inside out to find the what it is made from label.

the red label/symbol on the left of the label is the symbol for genuine leather...

It looks like it's real due to the inconsistent surface markings. Try the water test to be sure (if it absorbs a drop of water after a couple of minutes it's real, if it doesn't - it's plastic)

I can report the following:
It doesn't really have the typical leather smell.
There is no care label anywhere.
I tried the water test and the water was absorbed, leaving a darker stain.
Looking inside the pockets at the reverse of the leather, it does look quite authentic.
So on balance I think that it is leather, and I am very pleased with my bargain.

Oh, and I will definitely be wearing it undone, as I can't do the zip up, but it's a good fit across my back, and has generous arms.

Agree with Cosy. The symbol on the label is for goods made of animal hide.
