EBay summer clothes?

I am very lucky in that my best friend is paying for me to go on holiday with her for a few days in May. It'll be a beach/pool/bar holiday and I need/want to look reasonably fashionable despite having epic mum-tum and no money!

There seem to be swathes of suspiciously cheap lovely looking summer dresses and play suits on EBay, like 5.99 for a play suit. Has anyone ordered these and been satisfied with the quality? I don't want to spend a fortune on things I will wear for a week and realistically won't wear at home. Im guessing returns will be a faff or non existent tho so would like recommendations if possible.
Thanks

There’s a whole thread about these EBay trousers. Just waiting for payday and I’ll be getting a few pairs:

If you mean new clothes for that price then I be wary and check where they're coming from - returns to outside the UK can be difficult.

Tbh if I were you I'd be more inclined to buy used (often unworn or barely worn) items in brands you know from UK sellers. I buy a lot of my clothes this way and have had very few problems. The added bonus is you can resell decent brands after you've worn them and get your money back.

Hope you have a lovely holiday!

Agree with patchworkgirl
Clothes at that price are very unlikely to be up to much. Made me think of this article, particularly the comments about quality. Go for decent 2nd hand stuff.

I'd go for brands I like second hand on ebay. thats how I buy most of my clothes! They will also be easier to sell on if they happen to not fit

lindyloo57 · 01/04/2019 18:31

I agree with others, go for second hand brands you know, they will be better quality

All of those cheapo clothes are from China and when they arrive look nothing like the photo. Ditto the bags.

I splashed out £4.99 on a dark blue shirt which looked like it was a silk mix on the photo and like a dishcloth when it came. Went straight in the ragbag.

I do searches for brands like Hobbs/Jigsaw/Jaeger etc. Once you've added postage, if you're not making a huge saving you might as well grab a few bits from Next.

I refuse to risk "new from China via Ebay" clothes after ordering what should have been a size 16 dress but arrived more like a size 8 dishrag. Yes, I did check the sizing first but this more resemblance to the size or even design of what I ordered. Think thin, almost see through jersey fabric and weird seams that must have just been stitched at random.
Never again.

Livvylovesgin · 01/04/2019 21:47

No, they are made in China, usually awful quality and sizing; a real worry ethically in terms of working conditions too.

Better with second hand as others have said or I find buying new from EBay, branded, ex sale items or over makes. I've just bought an M&S dress, new with all tags, marked at £35.00, for £13.00 including postage.

It takes time and effort, I always stick to brands I know and like. A great way to buy clothes.

I get some pretty decent brand new or barely worn stuff from private sellers off Ebay.
Cheap stuff from China is so hit and miss, none of it is amazing, but some isn't as shit as the rest, but theres really not any way of knowing until it turns up.
I've had beautiful brand new with tags lipsy, boohoo, missguided, ASOS, etc dresses for under a fiver with postage.
I just wait till the last 10 seconds and bid a couple pound, the quality is better than China and like PPs have said, you can still get a couple quid for them after you've worn them.
I find the quality and price ends up being better than China sellers.
