Loose linen drawstring trews for middle aged fattie this summer.

Somehow I put on 2 stone last October and despite efforts (admittedly not prolonged and a bit half hearted) it hasn't shifted (definitely middle age spread). So this summer none of my wardrobe will fit and I have to face the probability of a 'fat' summer. Thinking ahead I'd like to invest in a navy, and a white/cream pair of loose linen trousers I have to be very mobile in my job so they need to fit well as I have to get up and down from the floor a lot. Over the years I've tried various makes of linen trousers and never found any that I felt really comfy in - which ones would you recommend for style and comfort?

Nothing to suggest I'm afraid, but I also need many new items due to the same reason. Trousers are a problem so I'm watching with interest!

JoyceDivision · 31/03/2019 22:36

What about the thin jersey printed ones that were all the rage last year? I work in an office that is sweltering in summer and lived in them

JoyceDivision · 31/03/2019 22:37

And they are elasticated waist

Filibustering · 31/03/2019 22:40

I defaulted last summer to Marks and Spencer wide-legged linen trousers — not drawstring, but a fabric belt and loops so you could replace it with a leather belt. I don’t know if they will stock the same ones again.

Nnnnnineteen · 01/04/2019 00:25

I would say (from bitter experience) only wear if your arse is ok or you have great knickers. I had a pair that my friend gently pointed out made my arse look like 2 balloons wrestling in a fabric bag.

polarpig · 01/04/2019 00:47

Cotton traders do some decent pairs of trousers like that. So do yours clothing but they go saggy quickly

GraceMarks · 01/04/2019 05:05

Asda actually do a range of these every year. They're really comfy but they go baggy-kneed quite quickly so you need to iron them before each wear. They're cheap, though!

Seahorseshoe · 01/04/2019 05:51

Asda George do lovely poplin summer trousers and shorts in a variety of colours and size up to 24. I recommend them.

mathsquestions · 01/04/2019 07:43

Maybe use this as a motivation for an urgent diet. If not now when...

whoseafraidofnaomiwolf · 01/04/2019 18:59

Right, thanks everyone for your help. It sounds like a trip to Asda & possibly a browse of the cotton traders site might be on the cards a bit later in the year.

@Nnnnnineteen - good advice, but frankly my arse is as wide as the atlantic so there aint nothing that's gonna make it look otherwise. Hence I need something that will be comfortable and cool rather than concerning about how my arse looks. Plus I do have really good knickers Wink

@JoyceDivision - I can't picture what you're describing there & I'm intrigued - have you got any pics please?

@mathsquestion - Thanks, that hadn't occurred to me Hmm

M&S do a great range of linen. I bought cropped trousers (which come in three lengths) and the wide leg ones last year. Must check out Asda now.

HaventGotAllDay · 01/04/2019 19:21

Next. The £24 ones. The bollocks they are. So comfy.
I live in them with plain white Ts in summer.
Them and Me & Em Palazzo pants (jersey)

EnormousDormouse · 01/04/2019 19:24

I'm a teacher in the ME and live in linen trousers.
I have a mixture of M&S, Asda and Sainsbury's - all of which wash and wear well for not too much ££££

JoyceDivision · 01/04/2019 19:31

Hang on ..

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 01/04/2019 19:32

I find wide leg jersey trousers cool enough in the summer. I have had loads of linen trousers from across different price ranges and they all get the baggy arse/ sack of shit look in nanoseconds.

I rate the jd williams ones which you can usually pick up on crazyclearance for about £10.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 01/04/2019 19:35

here

THey run large though by a size.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 01/04/2019 19:36

here £11.50 in navy

SevenSeasofRye · 01/04/2019 19:37

I bought some trousers from Monsoon with a partially elasticated waist. They look great!

I got navy linen trousers from next last year for about £25. Really comfy and a great length.

mathanxiety · 01/04/2019 21:05

None.

This is the worst style you could wear if you have gained weight.

mathanxiety · 01/04/2019 21:07

YYY to ' baggy arse/sack of shit' look.

GraceMarks · 01/04/2019 21:32

mathanxiety you're being really unpleasant now. Did you actually just call the OP a sack of shit?

EngagedAgain · 01/04/2019 22:12

I wouldn't get white ones if I were you. I used to fantasise about having a white pair of trousers, and in the past I've brought at least three pairs and never worn them. Basically because they are nearly always see thru and the underwear problem. Unless you wear a long top/cardigan, which is what I should have done 🤔

UrsulaPandress · 01/04/2019 22:17

How rude mathanxiety

What do you suggest a fatty like me wears then?
