Painted toes causing fungal nail??

Bear with me. Many years ago I had a pedicure at a salon where my toenails were painted a very dark red colour.

When I took off the colour, I had a large white patch on my big toe nail, that was presumed (by the gp when I mentioned it) to be a fungal nail infection.

It eventually went. But since then I've found that whenever i use a dark nail polish on my toes, I get a fungal nail infection.

Has anyone else found this? I feel a bit like a freak - and love painting my toes but not the waiting for it to grow out afterwards.

Has it definitely properly gone?

I caught a fungal nail infection from a Dubai nail salon 7 years ago, despite using the anti fungal paints and taking oral Terbinafine it is only just about to go now, it was vicious!

You could always try clear varnish under the dark one to see if that helps?

Yeah definitely gone. Been over 10 years since the first time, I leave off nail varnish until completely gone - in fact often many months (often more) in between.

I tried using base coat/clear varnish underneath but it made no difference.

I have this problem too. Always end up with a fungal nail infection when I use nail varnish on my toes. I've changed the varnish etc. Still get it. Weird. Smile

I get the same. Got a fungal infection about 15 years ago and it kept reoccurring every time I wore nail polish. it seems to be when I leave it on too long so now if I have a day or night out I will paint them then take it straight off the next day and it seems ok.

Yes yes yes I have found others who suffer this. I thought I was alone!

Grew up with painted toes which I'd keep all year round. No issues. Then in my 40s suddenly got a fungal infection and since then no matter which varnish I use if I keep it on I get a nail infection. So now I have to just do it for the event/party and take it off again the next day. It's a real pain what are we supposed to do in the summer? Keep redoing it every few days with a few days rest in between? I mean there aren't enough hours in the day for more grooming FFS

It's so good to know it's not just me! Thanks for the tips, looks like I'll have to keep stocked up with nail varnish remover.
