What goes with this dress pls?!

I'm going to a (sure to be) fabulous wedding in June in the UK. I'm hoping it'll be warm but we all know we can't count on it! It's in a stately home weddingy venue.

So far I've narrowed it down to the following two options

  1. pink dress. Love this but what would I wear over it? A jacket/blazer wouldn't sit right because of the huge bow at the back I guess? And it's not 1995 so a bolero is out of the question Grin

  2. jumpsuit - I love love love this BUT it's linen so is it too casual? I'd wear it with a white/cream fitted blazer with gold buttons

Am considering a hat/fascinator type thing for either outfit because I haven't been to a wedding for YEARS and I'm so bloody excited!

Would anyone like to weigh in with an opinion/another option? Budget is okay as it's a close friend and I'm happy to splash out for the one wedding I'll probably go to in 10 years Grin
I'm a size 12 (not much of a waist but biggish boobs), tallish (5'9) if that makes any difference.
Thank you!

The jumpsuit is much the nicest imo. But I'm not sure about being quite somuncovered at a wedding. Is it in church? A bolero type cardigan ( obvnit as frumpy as that sounds) might be good. Will you buy online? Wonder about going to big John Lewis or even small boutique with the jumpsuit and asking personal stylist to advise . I would always use a personal stylist in a store fr something as major as a wedding outfit

Dress is fabulous. I'd likely take a cream shawl- type thing to put over my shoulders but hope the weather is hot.
Anything instead of that dress would be a poor second choice.

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/03/2019 09:08

The jumpsuit is the best (even if they are a faff when you need to go to the loo). I'd wear it with heels that pick out one of the colours in the flowers. The other one looks too bridesmaid-y.

BlueMerchant · 30/03/2019 09:08

Posted to soon.
I don't like the length if jumpsuit or the floral pattern of it.

keenwasalad · 30/03/2019 09:58

Ooh ok so a split decision so far.
It's not in a church so I'm not too worried about uncovered shoulders. And the bridesmaids are wearing black so I'm not worried about looking too bridesmaidy.

I have some white Valentino rock stud shoes that I was thinking would be good, or a nude pair? (That I have yet to buy!)

Ooh I actually have a large square silk scarf full of pastel pinks that might be a good match for the dress?

I actually love the jumpsuit. I think it’s just right for a summer wedding.

I would definitely wear heels with it, though. It needs some height because of the trouser length.

A short jacket to go over the top if needed, and a lovely big hat!

ShirleyPhallus · 30/03/2019 10:06

And it's not 1995 so a bolero is out of the question

Actual lol as this is one of the biggest bits of fashion advice given on here. Along with “size 14 or over? Go in fancy dress 50s style pin up girl!”

Anyway, I absolutely LOVE the first dress, where is it from?

Cuch · 30/03/2019 10:10

I love the dress but I think of you haven’t got much of a waist then it might look a bit ‘sausagey’ on if you see what I mean? The jumpsuit is gorgeous too and perfect for a summer wedding.

TruffleShuffles · 30/03/2019 10:17

I love the dress. I do like the jumpsuit but the fact it’s linen would put me off, it will get extremely creased within minutes of sitting down.

How about something like a silk kimono with the dress? It would cover the bow but will you only need it if your outside? As a kimono is loose it won’t look sit too awkwardly over the bow like a jacket would.

Something like this shape , obviously not that colour, so it’s open enough to show off the dress as the front.

Love the dress. Lightweight shawl. Please, not a fascinator.

keenwasalad · 30/03/2019 10:20

@ShirleyPhallus Grin
The dress is Rebecca Vallance (via net-a-Porter)

Thanks Truffle and very good point about the linen creasing!

Prefer the jumpsuit it’s lush ,,not a fascinator

TinselAndKnickers · 30/03/2019 10:26

I love the dress but the bow at the back is a bit bridesmaidey? I love the pic PP attached of the chiffony cardigan, it's perfect!

BlueMerchant · 30/03/2019 10:33

I'd be tempted to go for plain nude heels. The Valentino's are fab but the dress is a statement piece in itself with the bow so statement shoes may be a bit 'much'?
I wouldn't wear a kimono type cover up as the 'look' of the dress would be ruined imo.

tihsho · 30/03/2019 10:58

Jumpsuit! All the way, the dress is too bridesmaid like. Love the jumpsuit, perfect for a wedding with blazer.

HugoBearsMummy · 30/03/2019 13:29

The jumpsuit is much nicer I think. Accessorise with nude 👌🏼

Whoops75 · 30/03/2019 13:32

Dress gets my vote
With a pashmina if needed

The linen fabric puts me off the jumpsuit.

keenwasalad · 30/03/2019 15:47

I might have to order both and forget to send one of them back

OP posts:
MoltonSilver · 30/03/2019 16:02

If you spend any length of time sitting, especially in a car, linen tends to look like you've slept in your clothes.

My vote is for the dress.

KickAssAngel · 30/03/2019 16:12

I prefer the jumpsuit - the dress does look a bit bridesmaidy/American wedding style. However, if it's a fabulous wedding, then it would look great. Wear a huge-brimmed hat and carry a pashmina type wrap.

The jumpsuit is so great you should probably get it anyway, just for wearing around. You could wear it for the wedding, if it's at a hotel and you can magically just float down from your room. Otherwise your choice is looking horribly creased or driving there in just your underwear.

If it is a hotel do, and you're staying the weekend, you could wear the dress for the wedding and the jumpsuit for breakfast the next day.

applesarerroundandshiny · 30/03/2019 17:19

I think that both the dress and the jump suit are gorgeous but I am wondering about the fit up top if you have large boobs; presumably you have a supportive strapless bra.

NoShoeShops · 30/03/2019 18:23

Really dislike the dress. Sorry but the huge bow reminds me of 1980s bridesmaid. Jumpsuit is definitely the best!

Have you got a good enough strapless bra?

asparalite · 30/03/2019 20:29

The dress is really lovely but I think just a tad bridesmaidy, the jumpsuit is great too but as it's linen I think probably too casual, sorry!
