Shoes for commuting

I'm heading back to a professional role after a break to have kids. My work wardrobe is all sorted with the exception of shoes for the commute.

I can't/won't walk to and from the station in heels, and when I last worked it was in a country where running shoes were perfectly acceptable on a the commute.

So lovely people, what are 40 something women wearing these days? Thanks 😀

London streets are full of women and men in trainers on commute!
You could go for a plainer non running type trainer for a little more style - Veja? Plain white or black Stan Smith's?

Or a pair of plainer Dr marten style leather Lace up ankle boots (not necessarily dms as I found the quality poor) - I have a long lived pair of Cheaney and Sons boots which are my go to commute footwear in winter and rain on a 40min walk through central London.

I wear Russell and Bromley loafers. Not cheap but they’re 4 years into the job and still going strong. And very comfortable over tights (unlike trainers).

Brilliant! Thanks all.

I'm feeling the pinch after essentially replacing an entire work wardrobe, so I'll just stick to runners as commuting shoes until the first pay check!

I always just wore trainers and kept my shoes at work

Sketchers go walk sweetpea. Not a commuter but my go to smart travel option

I used to wear heels all the time (except for the commute).

Then I had kids and embraced the sensible flats as work shoes 😂

Black boots in the rain but if it's not raining trainers. They're comfier and as others have said I just leave a pair of black shoes at work. I work in a fairly casual office though so sometimes I do forget to take them off lol!
