What to wear to wow at a Global Conference? Help!

I have just heard that I have a great opportunity to attend an International global conference for the first time. I need your help as my sector usually dresses quite practically and not sure how that translates to an International government forum?

It's in a hot climate but professional setting and hoping there might be others out there with experience who can advise on this scenario? I want to look appropriate but also kind of eyecatching and stylish so not sure what level to pitch at? Sounds as though it will be long days of meetings so need to be comfortable but professional...

I have nc for this so in terms of me; am late 30s, 5'6, size 14, hourglass-ish, blonde and paleish but as much interested in advice on the kind of outfits that are acceptable as much as the specifics...

Thanks for your help, style queens / conference mavens!

Are you presenting or just attending?

I find that my industry (private teaching) can vary hugely, and many presenters just turn up in jeans etc. Only those who are keynote speakers look more business like.

Anyway - I'm sure the event has a website with pictures from previous years. Study that. Also - do you know any of the speakers that you admire? Google them and see what they wear.

I once attended a week long conference in a warm climate and over packed - I envied my colleague who breezed in with just hand luggage and carefully selected key pieces (and was effortlessly stylish all week). I was going to suggest items that don't require a lot of faff, ie ironing.

Can you find any photos online of the same event from a previous year? It might give you a starting point.

I love a good global conference. Fortunately, as an academic I can just pitch up in any old thing. A cotton summer maxi dress and sandals; relaxed and not too formal but not over-casual either, should cut it in a hot environment.

Hope you enjoy it! I get a real buzz from these occasions (geek that I am!)

Yes, @TheOriginalMessyBun, I want to be the Effortlessly Stylish Colleague casually whisking enviably chic outfits from my land luggage...

A google of previous events suggests women tend towards tailored dresses and even jackets which would really rack up the costs, I fear...

Look at it as an investment OP Smile

I would probably take 3 pairs of smart cigarette type pants in black, navy and a pattern (try Boden) and a 6 or 7 tops/blouses that mix and match. Accessories at will

Plenty on the wisner site

10 days is quite a lot of packing so I would also pack trousers maybe one black and one colour, these BR trousers are a nice colour
