If you wear black opaque tights and boots all through winter, what are you wearing now/how do you transition to bare legs and sandals?

I mean at work. I don't like work trousers, though I live in jeans at home, so I wear preferably dresses, or a skirt and top to work with black opaque and boots.

Work is a new concept for me and I am no clothes horse, hate clothes in fact! so I am facing spring in a total quandary. It is getting too warm for black opaque and boots. Where next?

Try Biden slim fit trousers, they're amazing and like jeans but trousers ( if that makes sense)!

Midi skirt? Culottes? After years of wearing skinny jeans I bought a pair of dressy culottes with massive wide legs around Christmas and I'm completely converted. Now I have a cord pair, a check pair and a balloon leg pair as well. I haven't even done my spring epilating yet and it doesn't matter :) I wear them with bare legs and what I've noticed is that they make my ankles and calves look graceful.

Pleated midi skirt, knitted jumper with either knee high boots (that look is in right now- a bit 70s) or swapping to courts with bare legs in the office (my feet get hot in boots). Had several compliments on this outfit Smile

I also wear knee length more summery dresses but with nude tights and a cardigan for spring weather.

M&S do some great slim/skinny work trousers with some stretch in them.

At the end of the “opaque tights season” the traditional/retro in me comes out. I switch to stockings with a suspender belt. They get bad press, a myth they are not comfortable and sleazy connotations. But with a good quality belt, as opposed to one which had no place outside the bedroom, they are so comfy and practical.

From there I switch to bare legs, except maybe a few evenings. Back to stockings at the beginning of sutumn and then the dreaded opaque tights come out again for the winter. The first return to tights makes me feel like a trussed up chicken.

Oh, and always painted toemails in the bare leg season.

Can you be more specific so we can understand what you do like? Take the Gap skinny ankle trousers what do you not like about them?

Too short. I see they come in different fits but I am long legged and the length they are on the model is not something I like. Also, I don't think I could wear patterned trousers, because my tops are already patterned. They probably are just about smart enough for work, but some I have seen most definitely are not. Finally, it says the model is wearing size 4. I am a size 12 or 14. I suspect the look won't work well on me.

I am interested in those who say they are moving into more summery dresses. Any links?

Yes, that's nice (if a bit pricey, but the quality is good, right? Sorry, never bought Boden before so don't know). I'd probably prefer a bit brighter colours, but I'll have a look through the site properly when I get time.

Long skirts? That looks more summery without yet confronting the bare legs.

MaybeDoctor · 27/03/2019 09:26

I don’t wear black at all, which helps with this process as other colours like navy and tan are always a bit softer. It goes:

Winter dress with 20D nude tights and tan boots
Spring dress with nude hold-ups and tan boots
Spring dress with shoes - if I can find any that stay on my feet!
Summer dress with sandals

But sometimes I just give up and go to work in smart casual on days when I can’t predict the weather!

I wear 15 denier nude or natural tights, with ankle boots. Come May time I will switch to bare legs and heeled sandals.

Girlsnightin · 28/03/2019 07:42

I've moved from thick tights and boots to 7/8 trousers with nude courts or ballet flats. So only my ankles are a bit chilly on a morning. I get mine from warehouse or Dorothy Perkins. Wear with crew neck cardis, shirts with a French tuck. In summer add a vest top with linen blazer. Have a look on Pinterest. Loads of ideas for spring office wear.

Sturmundcalm · 28/03/2019 08:09

i'm wearing nude tights for the first time today, and only because the dress/cardi combo i have on doesn't really go with black tights and boots. i generally wear black tights/boots anytime except really sunny days in June/July/Aug.

when i have to i tend to switch to either cotton trousers or nude tights (can't do barelegged as I'm blue-ish tinged which doesn't seem to be in fashion...). i think with trousers you would need to go try them on - the gap model is probably an 8 in UK sizing, they use american sizing - as it's much more difficult to gauge how they will look on than it is with dresses/skirts. you could do a personal shopper appt somewhere like debenhams to try to find shapes that you like?

CountFosco · 28/03/2019 18:58

About 90% of the women at my work wear ankle skimming trousers and they are not all a size 8. If you like skinnies you're bound to find a pair you like.

But every imaginable leg shape is available at the moment so think about wide legged crops (or full length), or peg legs or paper bag waist. Try on everything untilyou find something you like.
