Have ruched skirts gone out of style?

I can't find them anywhere now, but they seemed like such a staple piece last year.

I bought two (Baukjen) and liked them, but then lost a bit of weight and they didn't fit as well so went to the back of the wardrobe. Now I'm 6 months pregnant and I've been rediscovering my love of them and wear them a lot.

I started looking for more as I want other colours and only have black and grey, but suddenly the internet is empty! Did I miss the ruched skirt boat??

I'd like to know this too. I saw some in the hush sale yesterday and was toying with buying one as I remembered S&B used to rave about them.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 25/03/2019 21:03

Yeah I'd say so. I have one from Baukjen and, like you OP, it was so useful when I was pregnant as I could just push it under the bump. But it's all about less fitted (and mostly midi) skirts now.

RooKangaroo · 26/03/2019 08:17

Ah, sad times :(

I was hoping to get some nice colourful ones from Kettlewell or similar. Will have to keep an eye out for when they come back in fashion!

Have you tried looking on eBay? It can be a gamble size wise but usually the prices are so low that it's worth the risk.

Mrs nometal get most of her clothes secondhand from there. Plenty of last season's fashion going cheap. A lot of it only worn once or twice.

Still loads around in Oz over the summer

Elllllle · 26/03/2019 08:56

(I have black, charcoal, khaki and pink - so comfy and flattering!)

nometal · 26/03/2019 09:38

"Still loads around in Oz over the summer".

They tend to lag six months in fashion though. It might be worth looking online there if they deliver to the UK or you have family coming over. I buy stuff online in OZ and get it delivered to relatives there.

Elllllle · 26/03/2019 09:52

nometal a few years ago I would have agreed, but I'm not sure it's the case now. They are different, definitely, but I think it's more of an Asian influence coming through. The uk and euro fashions can be quite frumpy by comparison.

RooKangaroo · 26/03/2019 10:03

Good point about eBay, thanks @nometal. Will have a peruse!

Stop rubbing it in that you've still got them on sale in Oz, @Elllllle! Massive envy over here Grin

@RooKangaroo I didnt even clock your username! Grin I didnt mean it like that, just meant they are still around ... in some places, in some form Grin

nometal · 26/03/2019 10:14

Elllllle You could be right. I mix with young Asian adults every day and some of their fashion choices verge on the bizarre.

Being a bloke, Oz fashion suits me fine. Target and Bunnings are my favourite shopping haunts. My wife does buy quite a bit of stuff while down there, mainly shoes and casual clothes though. Bras too for some reason. Definitely not high fashion.

Apologies to the OP for the thread derail.

Elllllle · 26/03/2019 10:18

Oz does do great shoes, bras and bikinis. Wouldn't look myself in Bunnings and Target however Grin ... asian fashion influence is so interesting. But yes, a different topic, sorry op!

YesQueen · 26/03/2019 10:27

I'm wearing an eBay one. Material is thin but I wear it with black tights anyway, and seems true to size

Floisme · 26/03/2019 11:18

I wore ruched skirts so often I ended up bored with myself, but I still reach for one sometimes.

Me and Em - who did the best ruched skirts I know if you see any one Ebay - have still got
this one on their sale page, although only in black.
They've also got this onewhich doesn't have the ruching but looks as if it's in that same stretchy but heavy duty fabric.

And Pure Collection have still got this one without the ruching, although only in black.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 26/03/2019 17:43

Don't know if they have but take a look at this beauty.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 26/03/2019 18:06

Are they flattering on short people with big tummies?

Floisme · 26/03/2019 19:58

I think they can be flattering because the ruching makes it harder to tell flab from fabric, and because you can adjust the length by wearing them anywhere from low on your hips to just under your boobs. I still like them - I just wore them so much I got a bit bored.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 27/03/2019 08:08

Thanks Flo, might give it a try then
