First time with highlights - what do i use?

I had them done yesterday to blend in with my natural roots (grey).
I've never had bleached hair before so I'm concerned about keeping it in good condition.
Any tips please?

Does no one have highlighted hair care tips? I don't want to mess it up by using the wrong products and risk it become a dry, tangled mess Blush

I've got high lighted hair and I use an elvive shampoo for highlighted hair. It's in a light orange bottle. I also have some olaplex off amazon which has been v good.

Thanks nodney.

They used olaplex in the salon, some mixed into the bleach and then a treatment afterwards. Which one do you use?

Hi there, highlights pro here.

They will have used olaplex 1&2 in the salon, you can purchase olaplex 3 and use it at home. It’s not a deep conditioner but a bond repairing treatment. You put it on damp hair, leave as long as you want, then wash as usual. Really helps improve the appearance of my hair.

Also if I were you I’d buy a purple conditioner. Purple tones help to keep blonde and also grey hair looking bright and fresh and neutralise yellow or brassy tones. I use mine every other time I wash my hair. There sreblosss of purple shampoos and conditioners on the high street, I personally like tigi bedhead purple for blondes as it comes in a massive bottle.

Hope that helps!

*there are loads of

I use a combination of fanola, pureology and john frieda. For conditioner I use coco and eve over night twice a week.

I have highlights and hairdressers always comment on the amazing condition my hair is in, I just use Aussie mega.

GreenHatHacker · 23/03/2019 07:01

Another vote for Aussie - coloured hair shampoo plus three minute miracle as everyday conditioner

HeartShapedLocket · 23/03/2019 07:06

Kitty but how do you know they will have used Olaplex 1 and 2 in the salon on OP's hair though?! My hairdresser is very old fashioned and has probably never heard of Olaplex (for example). She still uses a rubber cap to do highlights! (luckily I just have a trim by her)

RuggyPeg · 23/03/2019 08:08

Like Watching, I too use Fanola purple shampoo and Pureology - both magical stuff, made with unicorn tears 😁

Processedpea · 23/03/2019 08:11

I use redken colour extend and conditioner don't use purple shampoo . If the colour looks brassy or dull I get another toner put on

KittyWindbag · 23/03/2019 09:38

@heartshapedlocket the OP said in her second post that the hairdresser used olaplex.

MorningsEleven · 23/03/2019 09:42

I use Redken mainly.

poppym12 · 23/03/2019 10:00

Thanks for all the tips.

I think I'll get a purple conditioner (I've read that the shampoos are quite drying) and some olaplex 3 to use every couple of weeks - unless it only works when using the numbers 1 and 2 during the colouring process?

Can anyone suggest a stockist for the olaplex?

Olaplex 3 can be used independently of 1&2 as a simple maintenance treatment. I get mine on hqhair.com but there are other places to buy it. Probably amazon have it.
