Wearing dresses and skirts

Why do I always feel like a man in drag whenever I wear a long dress or skirt? Do they simply just not suit some people?

They're just not for you. Wear something you're happy in.

shitpark · 21/03/2019 20:18

Maybe you just haven't found the style to suit you.

SlipperOrchid · 21/03/2019 21:09

If you aren’t comfortable wearing them, wear something else.

Are you tall OP? Sometimes they can be an odd length on tall people. How about culottes/shorts/wide trousers?

makemineapinacolada · 21/03/2019 21:24

I'm 5'7, is that tall?

My sister is size six and five feet tall and feels similarly to you so probably not. My sister never feels she looks well in dresses. She looks perfectly nice but clothes are as much about how they make us feel as how they make us look.

OhTheRoses · 21/03/2019 21:54

I'm 5'7" and have always loved dresses. So easy.

What do you wear with them?

Meet0nTheledge · 21/03/2019 21:59

I'm never really comfy in either, in fact I can't remember the last time I wore a skirt, it must have been years ago. I don't mind dresses in hot weather but rarely wear them otherwise.

applesarerroundandshiny · 22/03/2019 12:37

It probably depends on the style of the dress and what shoes you wear them with - compared to what you normally wear. So if your normal wear us jeans and trainers a formal or going out dress with heels might be a bit out if your comfort zone.

I'm a casual dresser but wear a lot of dresses - a jumper or swing dress with opaque and boots in the winter and jersey maxi with flat sandals or trainers in the summer so they are really comfy outfits.

MeadowHay · 22/03/2019 15:42

If you don't like them, don't wear them! Wear what you like and feel comfortable in. Life is short.

Expressedways · 22/03/2019 15:52

Same height as you and I find long dresses and skirts don’t suit me either. Maybe if I wore heels but I can’t be bothered and then I also think I’m too tall... Above the knee works well though so I just stick to that. Wear what you feel comfortable in.

phoolani · 22/03/2019 22:29

I think it may be the type of dress. I never liked them, felt just ‘odd’ especially in a dress. But I read something about everyone being a masculine or feminine type, which was actully about whether you suited clean ‘masc’ lines or more frou-frou ‘fem’ stuff. I think people are one or the other. So put me in a simple a-line and I’m good; put me in bell sleeves and lace and I look like I’ve escaped. I can take a pattern if the rest of the dress has clean lines, but not otherwise. I wear dresses a lot these days.

Im 5'7" and only wear dresses at the peak of summer when it's just too hot to wear jeans. 9o% of the year i wear jeans, very occasionally a tunic and leggings. Im so envious of women who look comfy in dresses, but Ive just come to accept I'm not a dressy sort
