Is it a formal of casual suit outfit?

Tell me what do you think of the business formal suit outfit from the pre-fall 2018 collection of Brooks Brothers. I love it. Some tell me that it's right on the point, others say that it's too naive and casual.

I think it looks casual- not business-like at all.

Natalie9250 · 21/03/2019 12:21

Why?

The picture I get is skinny jeans and an informal shirt, not a suit of any description.

Natalie9250 · 21/03/2019 12:25

There's no jeans at all, as far as I can see.

I think it looks great but could get the same look for a lot less than the £800 price tag for the full outfit

BikeRunSki · 21/03/2019 13:32

Sorry, your first link took me to this, which I thought was indigo skinnies, but on second glance is actually tailored trousers. I think they are too skinny to be business dress. I do work in a very traditional industry though.

I rather like the plaid suit, but see it more “smart casual” than business. “Casual Suit “ seems a bit of an oxymoron to me.

Perfect if your office is business casual (although you could probably find the same look in Zara for under £100). Far too casual for the business formal they describe it as unless you added some sort of jacket. I do like the look though!

Natalie9250 · 21/03/2019 14:08

This is a jacket.

They do have a petite version of the trousers.

Is it the ‘plaid’ suit you’re looking at?

If you give us an idea of why you’re asking the question we’d probably be more help. First job interview out of uni looking at investment banking? I’d say it’s too fashion-y. Mid level established sales professional looking for a ‘fun’ suit to wear to a conference? If the cut suits you go for it. Difficult to known if it’s ‘on point’ without knowing the point you’re aiming at.

First job interview out of uni looking at investment banking?

Doubt there's many graduates looking at a £800 suit without their conservative parents paying for it and having a say.

I think for the vast majority of jobs that suit will look expensive and very smart and fufill the smart business criteria and may even be considered overdressed. There are a small number of very conservative industries that will think the suit is equivalent in outrageousness to wearing a yellow polka dot bikini to work. Only you know the setting you wish to wear the suit in.

DinosApple · 22/03/2019 06:59

I had a quick flick though, I thought the suits were lovely, and smart - but I work in a garage in a county town so not best placed for city professional dressing advice Grin.

There was a dress with a split up the front which looked too risky for sitting down in and the floral dress looked nice but not for work wear.

DinosApple · 22/03/2019 07:02

Oh and, if I had that much money to invest in expensive work wear I'd go with something classic so it wouldn't date and need replacing sooner. But that's personal preference.

Natalie9250 · 22/03/2019 13:27

I have been working for years. I am looking for some new fun suit. My offices do requires a very conservative business formal dress code though.

I have already own enough classic suits. But this one just looks so great to me so I wonder if it's worth the money for me.
