Smart layers for work?

I dress smart casual for work - so blazers would probably be too formal - and am struggling with what to wear over blouse or loose style tops. A waist length cardigan is too tight but waterfall ones make me look too old! What do others wear?

I'm late 30s, 5'10" and size 12.

For this reason I wear a lot of jumpers to work! Shirts/blouses alone are not warm enough, while cardigans look a bit frumpy.

You need interesting jackets. Not blazers but something less structured/formal in shape.
