Looking boxy?!

Hello peeps,

Just looking for a few tips as my style is skinny jeans, loose top but I'm feeling it's not working as well for me as feels a bit boxy. I'm a size 14/16, hourglassy/pear I guess. I'm thinking maybe it's the skinny jeans not working for me or something. Any tips for changing my style a bit?...

No it's the boxy top that's not working. You have to define your waist. Try figure hugging tops and high waisted trousers and skirts.

Wow, that's a very definite answer Pink

Being the same shape myself, I find that wearing skinny jeans and a loose top makes me look boxy or shapeless, whereas if I define my waist I suddenly have a nice shape and look a bit slimmer.

@PinkLipsDontLie thank you for the advice. I guess I thought tighter tops would draw attention to my overall shape but actually I think fitted does make me look better. Do you wear skinny jeans though, or more flare?

I wear skinny jeans/trousers. When I want something different, I go either tapered leg, or straight. I like cropped. Very rarely wide leg. Never-ever flares, it used to be the advice for pears ages ago, but they make me look fatter! Completely wrong.

SleightOfMind · 19/03/2019 23:06

How Pearish are you though?
Fitted stuff looks great if you have a small waist but not good if you have a tummy.

Go tighter on the bits you like and blur the bits you’re less happy with.

Also, pay attention to where things like cuffs, waistbands, necklines etc where do they end when when you’re standing normally?
Tops where the sleeves stop just on my wrists are awful on me and I never knew why till a chic friend explained this.

Also, fabrics. Lovely prints are ten a penny but good fabrics will make you feel and look amazing.

If boobs, no arse, here. You don't need a fitted top but you need something that moves with you and doesn't flare out. Neat neck and shoulder line, hang nicely 9ver the boobs and then skim, but not cling. DRts and waste shaping can help with thicker fabrics.

Where a top ends on your hip and thigh can also make a difference. That depends on your proportions, somewhat. I find mid thigh and the top of the hips the least flattering on me. I'm 5'4 with short legs.

PickAChew · 19/03/2019 23:24

And tending towards per shaped, you probably suit top of the hips more than I do.

@SleightOfMind I'm a size 14/16 depending on the store, so tend to wear Topshop Jamie jeans in a 16 and they are perfect. But I have a 38GG bust too. I like flares but I think for comfort rather than do they look nice. Tbh I've never bought trousers as felt like they would accentuate my belly...

Yes I was not talking skin tight, rather following the curve of the body. Cause a loose top will go out over the boobs, and then hang straight down, eliminating any notion of waist, and showing well.. a rectangle. And @SleightOfMind is very correct, regarding where things end. He length of the top, the length of the sleeve. Very important, needs to stop at your most flattering point you'll be able to tell in the mirror.
Also one last piece of advice, as a fellow pear. Don't expect everything to fit as it is.. buy something in a good fabric and get it tailored! Costs little money, and makes huge difference. I regularly size up in jeans to fit my thighs, and then take the waist in at a tailor. Then fits like a glove.
