Stretchy Vanity Sized Jeans

Hi...I need to buy some jeans for a teenager who struggles with an eating disorder. She's been down in the 4-6 territory in the past...but I'd say she's probably at least 14 at the moment. However if I buy her 14s it's likely that she will refuse to wear them, and potentially start freaking out about eating again and all the awful stuff that comes with that.

So I need to get some jeans that are cool enough for a 16 year old to wear, and stretchy enough to fit her, but don't look massive or have a size label that will cause a freak out.

Anyone come across something that'd meet that description?

Hmm that’s a tough one OP. I don’t know where is cool for teenagers these days (it’s a few years since I was a teenager lol)
I find next jeans a bit on the larger size. Or m&s or Asda (but I doubt they would fit the “cool” category)

Would buying European size jeans work? The 38/40 numbers confuse me. Or buying jeans in American sizes (postage might cost a lot though) but their sizes are two sizes smaller than UK iirc?

New Look Yasmin jeans are massively stretchy and look tiny even on my hippo ass.

Cornishmumofone · 16/03/2019 21:00

Have a look in your local TKMaxx. They quite often have US products with US sizes. (Especially Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Guess etc).

greengoose21 · 16/03/2019 21:51

American sizes. Of course... you geniuses!

And I'll have a look at New Look Yasmins too. Thank you

Fatface come up big. But surely just cut the label out?

Thelineisadottoyou · 16/03/2019 23:29

I don’t know if next will be cool enough but I bought some yesterday which are lovely and stretchy, think they are called high waist skinny stretch and you could definitely get away with a size smaller in those.

bellsbuss · 16/03/2019 23:36

Holister jeans are very stretchy, I go down a size with them otherwise they sag.

Seconding the New Look rec.

LostMyRubySlippers · 17/03/2019 08:18

Maybe Gap too for the American sizes?

maxinespalour · 17/03/2019 08:31

Primark jeans are very stretchy and there new sizing seems to be vanity sizing, as I've gone done a size or two in there (have been the same weight for 30 years!)
Also primark seems very popular with teens still, so maybe a good option?
Hope your dd is ok Thanks

puppymouse · 17/03/2019 08:33

Matalan Jessie style skinny jeans are generous I think. And Madewell are lovely - it's an American brand. I have a few pairs but they are very expensive so maybe not within budget.

snowone · 17/03/2019 08:38

I depends on where your teenager carries most of her weight I would say. I can't wear new look jeans as they just aren't big enough on my ginormous thighs - but I find next okay, probably a bit baggy on the waist! Jeans are very difficult to buy for other people Sad

WatchingTheWheels85 · 17/03/2019 08:39

I don't wear jeans but I had to buy size 6 leggings in primark because the 10 was ridiculousy baggy.

rookiemere · 17/03/2019 08:41

Sainsburys - I'm a 12 sometimes 10 there for jeans but normally am a 14 sometimes 16 but don't like to admit that

Countmeout · 17/03/2019 09:13

There's a one size fits all Jean I've seen advertised. Not sure how that actually works but I've seen them on Instagram in the stories from a local store (uk)

Countmeout · 17/03/2019 09:17

Tiffosi.
Maybe someone will come along who has tried them and summarise if they work

greengoose21 · 17/03/2019 09:44

I've just googled those Tiffosi Jeans...there's articles with multiple different women trying the same pair on to compare how they fit. I guess they might be an option but I'd like to see them 'in the flesh' so to speak.

She has become pretty solid in the trunk and on her thighs, and she's taken to wearing pyjama bottoms all of the time as they are comfortable...not a good look when being 'cool' matters.

New look have 20% off today so I've ordered some Yasmin's online, and will go out later to try some of the other recommendations.

I don't know if this helps, but I'd cut out all the labels, and say I'd spotted them in a charity shop for her, or a friend didn't want them and passed them to you. Might help explain the missing label. Good luck with getting the fit right.
