Would a dress with a zip at the back be tight?

I'm plus size. I'm browsing online looking for a dress for an upcoming wedding (guest).

I usually shop online and go for a style that I like and think suits me. So far so good with the few dresses that I have. I'm looking at a dress online. It has a cotton bodice and chiffon skirt. I usually size up with dresses. I'm a size 20 and go for a 22 in dress. The dress I'm looking at has a zip at the back. I wonder would this make the dress tighter? Should I avoid it or chance it? The few dresses I own has no zips. I put them on over my head.

It depends on the material

I think jersey material dresses have a bit more 'give' in them even if there is a zip in the dress. Would you like to post a link to the dress and we'll advise based on what is on the site perhaps?

If you are normally a 22 in dresses, get that size.

I'm a size 20 in bottom and top. I prefer to size up in dresses.

I'm like you OP - I'd size up as it's always easier to get things taken in and fitted than it is to try and let them out to fit (usually because seams don't have much 'extra' material to let a dress out).
I'd go for the 22 in the dress. It is a lovely style btw. Well may you wear it.

If you normally buy dresses so they are a bit big for you, then this one won’t be “tight” if you get your normal size. Just do as you normally do.
