Please help me ditch my Boden habit!

Just that really. I’m 43. 5’ 7”. Size 8. Pear shaped. Long body, short legs.
Most of my wardrobe consists of Boden stuff. Mostly plain and stripes. No crazy florals. Also mostly navy. I generally buy in the sales or when 15-20% off.
Am desperate for something by a different brand (and not navy!) but am struggling.
I’m a SAHM so no workwear needed. I like to be comfy but not scruffy. Don’t wear heels really as they give me problems with my back.
No clue where to start. Can anyone help?

If you usually wear trainers what style jeans or trousers do you usually wear?
How about starting with trying a different style of jeans/trousers? Mom jeans or straight/slim raw edge jeans both look great with trainers. Topshop do a great selection of all different styles of jeans and trousers.
Is there anyone on Instagram whose style you particularly like?

UserN0me · 14/03/2019 17:27

Hush?

Beamur · 14/03/2019 17:29

White stuff

Hoppinggreen · 14/03/2019 17:49

I ditched mine, I now have a Hush habit instead

MrsJamin · 14/03/2019 17:50

I'd go for Hush. White stuff is not good and overpriced thin fraying fabrics.

ilovecherries · 14/03/2019 17:53

I ditched my boden habit for Hush - with a little side swipe to Jigsaw, Poetry and Wrap on the way past.

QueenMabby · 14/03/2019 18:14

I wear sort of leather conversy things from Hobbs with straight leg jeans (Boden Trafalgars) or some straight chino things from white stuff.
I find WS too short in body and sleeves for me.
Is Hush as good as everyone says?
I only really have 2 pairs of “daily” footwear. Aforementioned Hobbs trainers and some navy biker boots from M&S. Maybe I should start there? Which shops are good for footwear??
Thanks for all the advice.

Well I am a Hush fan as I love the casual style of the Hush look but in all honesty it can be a bit hit and miss. Some stuff is excellent, some can be not of the best quality. Why don't you come over to the Hush thread, we post a lot of reviews and photos of our buys - a friendly supportive bunch who like to share ideas and inspiration.

imsorryiasked · 14/03/2019 18:21

Have a look at seasalt and lands, they may be an easy option for something different but not too different.

Coffeepot72 · 14/03/2019 19:13

Not sure why you'd want to ditch a Boden habit? If you avoid the mad patterns, their stuff is lovely?

Sophiathefortyfirst · 14/03/2019 19:23

I'm a similar age and size and I wear lots of clothes from COS. I also love Zara clothes.

herecomesthsun · 14/03/2019 19:41

I just buy stuff in the Boden sales, mainly navy Smile

herecomesthsun · 14/03/2019 19:42

Things with 50-70% off, usually.

Decormad38 · 14/03/2019 19:44

Just bought a lovely green dress with little flowers and an orange cardi from Boden. I’m no help!

QueenMabby · 14/03/2019 19:46

Thanks all. I do love Boden but find my outfits are getting a bit samey. I have ONE pair of jeans/trousers that aren’t Boden and that’s taking things just a bit too far I think!

BlueMerchant · 14/03/2019 19:49

What's the obsession with Boden? It's overpriced and meh.

BikeRunSki · 14/03/2019 19:57

OP you’re me! But younger and thinner.
My wardrobe is all also largely navy Boden, I have a long back and I have Trafalgar jeans in 4 colours! So I am watching with interest..... I have some chinos from Asda and t shirts from BAM. Couple of work things from Uniqlo. But mostly Boden. I keep trying in Seasalt, but the tops are too short/dress waists too high and trouser legs too narrow for my chunky calfs.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 14/03/2019 20:03

You are size 8 and can't find any other clothing to suit you?

#firstworldproblems!

(meant kindly)

Allice · 14/03/2019 20:11

I buy mainly navy from boden but just went mad and bought a green Breton!
I also buy navy clothes from joules and a few navy bits from Sainsbury's.
I'm actually wearing a boden grey dress now though, it's not all navy!

I know I'm no helping but I'm also in a rut!

kittyhello · 14/03/2019 20:38

I used to be a Boden fan a few years ago but the only thing I buy from them now are their chino shorts and tee shirt. Here's a list of Boden alternatives at a similarish price point:

American
JCrew
Everlane

Spanish
Massimo Dutti
Intropia
Adolpho Dominguez
Uterque

French
APC
Sandro
Maje
Gerard Darrel
Pablo
Sézane

British ish!
Baukjen
Me&Em
Russell & Bromley
LK Bennett
Whistles
Jigsaw
And/Or
Toast
Margaret Howell
The Dressing Room
Shop at Anna

Swedish
&Other Stories
Arket
COS

Japanese
Uniqlo

No Hush for me, I don't rate the quality or fit, a small tee shirt is massive on me and I'm not tiny.

daisygoodwillflett · 14/03/2019 20:43

I empathise. I just had a Boden box delivered today (all solids: navy, white, and brown) and meant to only keep one outfit but they are all so flattering. They fit. I've been trying to branch out with little success. I have long legs, a high, small-ish waist, and large boobs and hips. Not many places get the boobs, waist, hips shape. Either the clothes go straight from boobs to hips (and add a stone I don't have) or they are a bit too curvy for everyday work and mumming about.

Boden is good for pears and they are solid. You know what you'll get.

BikeRunSki · 14/03/2019 21:00

Boden is extremely handy if you don’t live anywhere near any decent shops; spend most of your spare time juggling children and work; just want to look presentable.

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 14/03/2019 21:09

'Boden is extremely handy if you don’t live anywhere near any decent shops; spend most of your spare time juggling children and work; just want to look presentable.'

This is exactly me. And a lot of my clothes are from Boden (mainly sales).

MoltonSilver · 14/03/2019 21:22

I really like Hush style but the quality is nowhere near that of Boden.

Rathkelter · 14/03/2019 23:43

Try a personal shopper at John Lewis, Topshop or Debenhams. They will see you in a different light and inside you with new styles. You are under no pressure to buy either.
