Fringe Disaster!!!

KirstyVal · 14/03/2019 12:01

Ok so I made the mistake of cutting my own fringe...I have given myself a bowler like cut Blush

I went to the hairdressers the other day and they thinned it out slightly but have said I will just have to wait for it to grow out.

For now, I'm wearing a headband and suppose I will be living in them until it eventually grows!

Has anyone has similar disaster and how long did it take to grow out / undo?! Any tips?

Can you twist and pin it back with Kirby grips?

Knittedfairies · 14/03/2019 12:04

Argh! I've no advice but it might make you feel better if you look at DIY haircut disasters on YouTube... there are some shockers!

Hot4Holes · 14/03/2019 12:04

Oh dear! Do you wear glasses? They are good for disguising a dodgy fringe.
Is it long enough so you could do a French plait along it to disguise it?

Post a pic so we can get a better idea. I’m sure it won’t take long to grow out

KirstyVal · 14/03/2019 12:05

Just about but it's a struggle as I end up with lots of strays that come forward. Really mad at myself for cutting it!

@knittedfairies I did that last night! It did make me feel better but when I look in the mirror I do not haha

@Hot4Holes I don't wear glasses, having has laser eye surgery couple years ago!

It's not long enough to do a quiff let alone a French plait unfortunately. I think it's just a matter of having patience and waiting for it to grow!

I'm too embarrassed to take a picture haha. But it sits just at the eyebrows and different lengths - its more wispy now the hairdresser had a go but I ended up cutting way too much into it around the sides which makes it look sooo bad.

It can't be as bad as mine when I cut mine, I have wavy hair and when I cut it it curled up in tight curls, I don't own a straightener nor afford to buy one. Blow drying it straight only worked for a few minutes.

KirstyVal · 14/03/2019 12:25

Oh no @goose1964 what a nightmare!

Actually the front part of it isn't too bad just a little short. Its the sides that are awful - I cut way too much off hence the bowler cut look!

At the start of all this, I just wanted a cute curtain fringe. The first hairdresser did an awful job. The second one tided it up a bit but still wasn't want I wanted.

That's when I decided to change it -biggg mistake.

It's so hard to find a good hairdresser! But any one would have been a better choice than myself.

My lovely hairdresser has closed up shop 😩 and I’m badly in need of a haircut. As it’s a bob it doesn’t look awful, but I can’t see out of the fringe. I was about to have a go at cutting it myself. Then I read this... I am now feeling very sorry for you... and looking for a new hairdresser!

KirstyVal · 14/03/2019 13:57

Haha @Hot4Holes I used to have Butterfly clips like that! I WISH my fringe was long enough to do that with sigh

I'm making do with a thick headband right now though and it works.

@Thisisnotwhatiwant definitely don't do it yourself! It's not worth the risk! I'm glad I have inspired you to go to the hairdresser.

I have many a time cut a 2am panic fringe, the last one was particularly frightful even the hairdresser laughed when I told her. 18 months down it's just about grown out Blush. Best thing to is invest in some good grips and a toothbrush to tame the flyaways, I used to be a fan of plaiting it to the side.

Thisisnotwhatiwant · 14/03/2019 16:15

@KirstyVal it was a timely post - thank you. Just wish I could offer you a solution. Hope your hair grows quick. Tbh I think we are always far more self aware of these things than other people. Hold your head high and rock it!

KirstyVal · 15/03/2019 10:52

@pumpastrotter when it's long enough I will definitely be plaiting it to one side!

@Thsiisnotwhatiwant haha I will try and rock it! Well I'll be rocking the headbands anyway Wink

Ok this is very outing but I'm sharing to make you feel better. An actual hairdresser in a salon did this to me last year! I went somewhere else the next day to try and get it rectified but as she could stick hair back on, it didn't help much. 3 hellish weeks, then it started to look much better.

KirstyVal · 19/03/2019 14:07

Oh my god @Dimedollar

I can't believe a so called professional gave you that cut haha!

Thank you so much for sharing!

That's good it only took 3 weeks to start looking normal again!

I'm getting quite into my headbands now anyway, loving the head scarf look!
