I bought a new coat, parka style, from Tog 24. Supposedly warm. Looks warm. But it absolutely is not. I also have a Merrell Haven jacket, which is marginally warmer, but even in 10 degrees C, I am shivery and I hate it.

I am 5ft 3, size 6-8 so need something that doesn't drown me, preferably waterproof, and bloody warm because I am sick to death of feeling cold. Reasonably trendy if possible too. Please help!

I have this coat in black and honestly I was warm enough to walk about during the beast from the east when it was -10. And it's cheap!!

If the gilet version of this is anything to go by then this should be really warm. They don’t have my size left but I think next winter I will be getting one.

AuntVanya · 13/03/2019 19:51

Nothing beats a puffa for warmth..... but they aren't waterproof.
Make sure it's to the knee. There are so many pricepoints but even the cheap ones are warm - don't buy one that's "lightweight".

CottonSock · 13/03/2019 19:52

I have several (too many) high spec outdoor winter coats but my warmest is a long wool one.

thedevilinablackdress · 13/03/2019 21:18

What else are you wearing? You need layers to be toasty IME.

CharDeeMacDennis · 13/03/2019 21:31

I have that, and can confirm it's v warm.

BUT I can't imagine needing it at 10 degrees, so I must run warmer than the OP.

PlayingForKittens · 13/03/2019 21:46

I'm a cold person with reynauds and I have a didriksons coat, can't remember which one but it is insulated and waterproof and kept me warm in Finnish lapland last month.

Unbelievable18 · 13/03/2019 22:02

I wear a thermal top and usually either a couple of merino jumpers or a lambswool/cashmere jumper over the top. The Musto parka looks very good but I think a few of the others mentioned are similar warmth to what I already have.

I’m always cold so really need toasty, warm jackets. The very best I’ve found are Didriksons too. They are sooooo cosy and waterproof. I have 3 and all styles are so warm.

ShreksAuntie · 13/03/2019 22:27

I buy my winter coats from the charity shop. A 100% wool long coat for between £5-£10. Get it dry cleaned for another £15. Bargain.

MoltonSilver · 13/03/2019 22:31

Having worn padded coats for a number of years, I have returned to a more traditional wool coat this year. I had forgotten how much warmer they are.

Whyareweallhere · 13/03/2019 22:36

North face Artic parka?

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 13/03/2019 22:41

Yes to craghoppers. Excellently warm. Or a sheep skin coat from ebay. I look like Del Boy but I'm toasty in it.

Twotabbycats · 13/03/2019 22:42

Have you looked at Land's End? I have a mid thigh length waterproof coat that i bought from there a few years ago. It's so warm I only get it out when it drops below freezing (quite often here as I live at 650 metres), and I think they do even thicker ones too.

PuzzlingPuzzle · 13/03/2019 22:42

I live in a throughly frigid winter climate and most people I know have either a Canada goose or a north face parka. You definitely need something that comes to at least mid thigh. And I bought ski thermals and socks from tog 24 last year and they were utter crap and went straight in the bin after I got home so I’m not surprised you don’t rate the coat.

Unbelievable18 · 14/03/2019 18:07

I think I'm too small for Land's End. Thanks all, shall do some browsing, preferably in the sales!

Found a didriksons, a bit more than I wanted to spend but it is the warmest available!

Brilliant. They are amazing jackets. They keep you so toasty but you can still breathe in them. You don't get all sweaty! They make dog walking in the winter a pleasure.

LuluBellaBlue · 14/03/2019 20:09

I love my Didrikson’s!

Laquila · 14/03/2019 21:06

Didriksons are the GREATEST.

FaithInfinity · 14/03/2019 21:57

I got this Craghoppers coat for Christmas, I’m having health issues and feel the cold, this is brilliant. Also has a handy pocket inside the coat.
