Help me - I’ve got 3 months to look good

We’ve been invited to a wedding. It’s going to be full of very wealthy, beautiful people. I am neither wealthy nor beautiful, but want to attempt to blend in as much as possible. Dress code is ‘morning suits or suits’

Can you give me some ideas on how to generally look better? What sort of thing to wear?

I’m 5ft4, a size 8, I have a boring bob in mousey blonde and spotty skin. Oh, and I had a baby 9 weeks ago. We are the first of this group to have a baby, so everyone else is still glamorous and lovely looking. Please help!

That dress is perfect for a top hat tails wedding .

Congrats on the baby OP, sorry to go against the grain. But please don't wear that dress, it does nothing for you. Plus it's too low/booby/strappy for a formal wedding.
Have you considered hiring a dress, there are lots of great rental sites that allow you to rent something beautiful (including headwear) for a fraction of the price.(can't recommend as don't live in the uk)
If it's tails, you'd need sleeves or maybe a high neck or at least a jacket but don't be afraid of legs - think formal tailoring.... google recent royal wedding guests for inspiration. If you can get a blow dry on the day, that will do wonders.
If money is no object, get cut/colour, brows, light spray tan, mani pedi prior.
If on a budget, do all of the above yourself (apart from hair, maybe a good at home toner, treatment)
Wear classic pump, Nine West do a great comfortable one. Most importantly have an amazing night with your DH!
Weddings are fab and whatever you wear be sure you feel amazing !!!!

@freemefromacne @Atalune is spot on with that jumpsuit! Gorgeous....... dark colours look fab in the sun !!

freemefromacne · 14/03/2019 13:26

What about something like this? I do quite like wearing a high neck...

I like this one too - am I on the right track? Although I fear I’m too short for all of these dresses...

I like the Mint Velvet one!

Agree with blonde highlights. You could also, if you have a chance, visit the hairdresser the day before and ask them to style your hair so it lasts for the next day.

If going for heels, ones with a slight platform are more comfortable.

Chi Chi London have some fab tailored dresses which would be suitable. But your pink dress is nice, is there any way you can wear a bra with it...?

Atalune · 14/03/2019 13:58

Both the dresses you have linked to are lovely!

VioletBlu · 14/03/2019 16:43

I think both the linked dresses are lovely but I do think it's nice to have a dress that goes from day to night.

Have a look at the Oasis twist neck midi dress. (sorry can't do links). Pale grey would go with so many colour options for shoes/accessories and a little jacket.

Or the satin bodice midi dress. Something that shows off a bit of shoulder looks good for day and evening without being over obvious (cleavage). They are tailored but still a younger style. (ps I don't work for Oasis but I love their dresses!) Grin

I would wear dresses like that with mid heel barely there sandals. Dune do brilliant ones which are the perfect height - not too high, not too low, and they are really comfortable - I've worn Dune mid-heel sandals to many events and weddings and they have never once dug in or felt uncomfortable.

The pink dress you showed in the pic is pretty but I agree with a PP that the top half is too strappy and cleavage-y (or informal) for a formal wedding. The skirt part is very pretty though!

freemefromacne · 14/03/2019 19:31

Just been having a look at Oasis - some lovely dresses! Will have a look at the shoe websites too and ChiChi. Just found this one on Debenhams site which is the perfect neck and sleeve but possibly not a dressy enough material. I might take DS for a little shopping trip to Debenhams where there is also a Bobbi Brown counter (I think)

That's Arab Ella whistles dress is perfect for a glam wedding.

whatdoyouwantfromme · 14/03/2019 21:31

Love the whistles and mint ones - exactly on track. I would still opt for a classic pump, over sandal. But then that's just me.

These are a great, very comfortable and come in a variety of colours/fabrics. Great price too - gives you more $$ for the dress!!
Something like this could be cute, if you wanted a move away from the floral sleeves?

I'm just thinking if your small and petit, something like that would show off your figure?!

Thin strapped low heeled sandals are very "In" this season so the shops are awash with them. If you want a neck and sleeves, this silk dress from jigsaw looks good www.jigsaw-online.com/product/a-hibiscus-print-silk-dress/J34390_AS011
