Phillips lumea - how long before you saw results?

I finally splashed out and bought one of these. I've used it twice so far - first time just on legs, then 2 weeks later (yesterday) on legs and bikini line. Now I just feel uncomfortable from the regrowth after shaving my bikini line (and am remembering why I've stuck to waxing for the past 20 years), urgh. I know one zapping session isn't enough but how long was it before you saw results? Do more stubborn areas like bikini lines take a bit more time?

I haven't used mine for a couple of years now and at first thought it was not having much effect but after about a year of sporadic use the stubborn dark hairs on my upper lip stopped reappearing and I am now graced with hairless patches on my lower legs where I half heartedly used it. (I couldn't face the time it would have taken to seriously tackle my legs!).

The thicker and darker the hair the better it works so you might see faster results on your bikini line.

My experience is that it does work but you have to keep at it. Need to get out out again to tackle that persistent little wiry so an so on my chin.

Singlemum oh no!

Meercat- thanks, I'll persevere. It's the itchy regrowth that's driving me slightly mad but hopefully it'll pass...I haven't been brave enough to put it anywhere near my face yet!

Ps yes I've found doing my legs to be very time consuming. I keep telling myself that a trip to the beautician for a wax takes longer...

I've been using mine for a couple of months but didn't start all areas at once. Probably should have been a bit more scientific about it!

Broadly speaking I've had noticeable results everywhere I've used it, but it's worked better in some places than in others. I've done under my arms probably 5 or 6 times and there is basically nothing left now. Same for my upper lip and chin - neither were particularly hairy but I have almost nothing left on my upper lip and the horrifying and persistent single chin hair has not come back since I've been using it!

I've done my lower legs 3 or 4 times and I'm experiencing very little regrowth now. I've only done my upper legs once so far. My arms have been done a couple of times and it hasn't made much difference so far, but the hair was much lighter and blonder there anyway.

I've done the bikini area about 4 times and still have quite a lot of prickly regrowth, but I am noticing a definite reduction in hair. The areas where the hair is the thickest are taking longer.

So far I am quite impressed and don't regret buying it. Will be TTC soon and will have to stop using it during pregnancy, so it will be interesting to see whether the hair stays away or whether it comes back.

This is my first post on a new account after lurking for a while, but I am genuine, promise!

I have PCOS so I am gifted with excess body hair. I used the lumea on my lower legs only and there's basically no hair left at all. Maybe the odd stray that I have to zap. I have started using it on my thighs (good results so far) and intend to use it on my underarms next.
If you've got light skin and dark hair then stick to two week or four cycles at the highest setting and carry on until you get the results you want.

ForOldLandsEye · 08/03/2019 12:29

I noticed after about six weeks of weekly use. Then I went to fortnightly. Then monthly.

It does work but its so time consuming - especially on the legs. Worth it though if you cant afford to get it done properly in a salon.

ForOldLandsEye · 08/03/2019 12:31

Forgot to say, I havent used it since last May so all my hair has now returned, as lush as ever apart from patches on my shins. Nice.

Can I hijack the thread slightly to ask if you’ve had success with the Lumea, what is your routine for using it?
Do you shave first and then use the same day? Or could you wax first and use a day later?
How often do you use it and how long did it take to see results?

I’m really considering buying one, main areas of concern are upper lip, chin and bikini line but I don’t want to have to shave these areas in order to use the Lumea

MrsBrill · 08/03/2019 13:36

That sounds promising! I will keep going and push through this annoying prickly stage.

Good luck TTC. Thankfully those days are behind me so I can zap away merrily Grin

I shave, normally the day before. The idea is that the light is absorbed by dark hair (which is why it doesn't work on people with light hair or dark skin) and kills the root. If you've just had a wax then there is nothing there for the light to kill. If you don't shave first then there is too much dark hair and the flashes can be a bit painful (as the surface hair sort of... fries). That said, I've had so little regrowth on my legs or under my arms after a few goes that I am no longer bothering to shave between uses.

It's true that shaving the bikini area is not nice when you're used to waxing, and the regrowth has been prickly and uncomfortable, but now I've done that area about 3 or 4 times I'm getting a lot less regrowth so I'm persevering with it for now.

MrsBrill · 08/03/2019 13:39

Oh gosh I hadn't seen all the other replies - good luck TTC was for @tonightjosephine!

I'm really reassured by what you've all said. Sticking with it sounds like the key. Thanks all.

I’m in my 4th application and the regrow that’s is much less and slower.

Now have patchy regrowth after a week that is the same length as about 12 hrs regrowth before Lumea

Mrs9C · 09/03/2019 16:56

After about 6 sessions of consistent useage, but once I noticed a difference I went ages and ages without doing my legs again

Megsheeran · 09/03/2019 17:02

I used mine for over 2 years and noticed no difference even though I have pale skin and dark hair😞 Oh, apart from it caused the hair on my chin to turn white?😶 Saved for ages to buy it and thought it would be life changing so very disappointed, did get a good price for it on Ebay

Windowsareforcheaters · 09/03/2019 17:03

Started off as per instructions. Shave, use it the next day, every two weeks.
9 moths later

Legs are now virtually hairless - use it once every 6weeks.
Underarms 90% gone
Bikini line 80% gone

I still try to do bikini line and underarms every fortnight.

It's brilliant but I have very pale skin and dark body hair.
