Eye liner.... where am I going wrong?

Why oh why am I so utterly shite at applying eye liner? I don't want anything fancy - literally just a slick along my lash line. I've been using a liquid felt tip pen type eye liner from BENefit. Is it the product? It always seems to end up patchy or wonky. It's brown but I put it on so shit the other day someone asked me what the red mark on my eye lid was from Blush

Incidentally I don't recall being much better with pencil eyeliners...

Help!

Well I’ve not tried Benefit eyeliners so can’t say if it’s that - but assuming it’s not.... do you try to draw one sweepy line? That’s really hard to do. And the idea is to get the line as close to your lashes as possible to make them look thicker, rather than a line next to them.

I also use a felt tip type one and just use it to dab teeny little dots along my lash line, close together enough to make a line. I then use a teeny little angled brush (think it is called an eyeliner brush) to smudge along the line and soften it a bit before it dries. Usually looks ok!

Also meant to say - worth having a look at Lisa Eldridge’s videos on YouTube & her website on how to apply make up.

I find the felt tip ones almost impossible! They’re quite hard to find now but one with a thin brush is much easier, I think Borgeois do one.

Try powder. Just a normal matt black or brown pressed eyeshadow. Narrow angled brush. It's very forgiving and you can build up the colour to be subtle or intense.

For a base try an eyeshadow primer then sweep all over with translucent powder or taupe, whatever neutral shade you fancy. Stops the eyeliner falling off through the day!

I find the felt tip ones difficult, the best one for me is the L'Oréal Super Liner, the tip is stiff enough to not wobble but flexible enough to get a good flick. Best I've used by a mile.

Instead of one line. Put small dots along your lash line, then join them up. Less chance it will be wonky. Also black is probably a better shade than brown.

I find using cake style eyeliner and brush much easier than the felt tip pen types-feels like you've got more control
If you can't find one just a black eye shadow works well!

There’s good YouTube videos for eyeliner application. I’m still trying to perfect my flick though! Can never get both eyes to match Blush

No idea why the eyeko one works, but it just does! It's the only one I can use and it works every time. On their website they're is currently one on sale in Christmas packaging. I promise I don't work for them! Just happy with the product.

I use powder as I find it more forgiving. Apply with brush and smudge blend as appropriate.
