Good quality 'work' suits

I am taking on a new professional role where I need to wear formal subdued suits. Dress and jacket or trousers. Can anyone recommend good quality stores to try? Budget flexible. Good quality clothing more important ... I currently rock smart casual really well but need to up my smartness by a significant margin

I’m short too abd really struggle with this. The last few suits I bought were from Reiss and thy do look smart. I had the jacket sleeves shortened.

The Fold London is lovely.

I also like Winser London, Hobbs and Reiss.

Ooh thanks for quick replies. I like the look of fold but they look like they suit loooong people ... any experiences on a short arse?

I'm about 5'4 and the dresses definitely need taken up on me but the waists sit the right place (and I'm quite high waisted). I love their stuff.

thekingfisher · 06/03/2019 21:25

Thanks - also really like the winser stuff

Check out Oxfam Online too - they often have lots of lovely work clothes on there. I got a beautiful designer suit from there the other day for £30!

Hobbs for me for my smartest stuff.

When I was working in the finance industry I found that smart dresses could be mixed and matched with jackets from different places and in different colours which gave me more flexibility.

I have had a good jacket from Jigsaw in the past, and dresses from phase 8, and the odd thing from Laura Ashley, Rocha John Rocha and m and s as well.

I'm a bit taller than you and mostly opt for dresses and contrasting jackets these days, but in the past have had lovely suits from jigsaw and karen Millen. Reiss, Hobbs, Massimo Dutti, jaeger can be good for work stuff.

reallemonade · 06/03/2019 22:19

Fenn Wright Manson have really nice suits in petite sizing.

John Lewis do decent basics - tailored jackets with trousers/skirts. I used to get mine from Hobbs but I’m not in City wages now!

Thanks all these are some good ideas - I ordered a couple of dresses from Winser last night as they seemed quite reasonable priced - hopefully they will come in next couple of days - but will look at some of the others too....

Banana Republic also worth a look

M&S are pretty poor quality and fit. Cheap though.
