Critique my skincare routine

I have only recently started taking more care of my skin (late thirties) before it was a simple face wipe in the evening and some miceller water in the mornings with some supermarket moisturiser if I remembered 🙈

Skin is normal / greasy, I still get occasional small spots and I have several age spots, particularly round my eyes.

Was just recently gifted a bag of No 7 Protect and Perfect items, mainly moisturisers, eye cream and cleanser. Have also received my first Birchbox which I have a 6 month subscription for.

Currently I do a hot cloth cleanser (Superdrug one) followed by NipFab glycolic pads for sensitive skin morning and night.

I follow with a day moisturiser (Superdrug) or a night moisturiser (simple age range) and some No7 eye cream.

What else should I be doing? Should I move onto stronger glycolic pads next? I received a serum in my Birchbox, when in my routine should I use that?

I'd follow up with a second cleanse. I use the micellar water for combination skin first then hot cloth cleanser after for a deeper clean.

I'd invest in a glycolic acid toner such as Pixi. Use a serum after cleansing/toner but before moisturiser.

Is the Simple moisturiser thick enough for night time? Get a really heavy one to sleep in and your skin will feel much smoother in the morning. Or even try rosehip oil, don't be put off putting oil on combination skin, I do it and it works wonders. If you do use oil though make sure that is the last thing you do in your night time routine, nothing will penetrate it so it will be pointless

Remember SPF every single morning too. SPF in your foundation is not enough you need a separate one.

When would I use the toner?

I have a sample of that oil, I can try that.

What SPF product would you recommend?

I think General rule of skincare products is use thinnest to thickest consistency. So serum, eye cream, moisturiser, oil (optional)

Also if you’re not using spf atm i wouldnt recommend using the glycolic pads in the morning if you’re going out during the day as its makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight- the body shop skin defence is a good option

I love nip and fabs dragons blood pads, i use that in the morning and the glycolic one every other night, as i dont want to strip away my faces natural oils.

Forgot to say, toner after cleansing and before applying any products :)

Start using retinol 1% at night and a high spf for the day.If your skin gets very dry and flaky use every second or third night until it gets used to it .Don't use it around the eye area as the skin is much thinner there.

Thank you both

I'll pick up the body shop item this weekend

Any specific retinol 1% product?
