Make up just to make a tired face look a bit less shit?

I don't wear make up ever often, but I am going to an occasion soon where i will be making an effort and wearing a dress etc. My pale face with brown eye circles does detract a bit from the overall effect I admit. Blush

So I'd welcome suggestions of a light foundation or something to try.

I'd prefer relatively subtle, i'll likely just get the eyelash curlers out and stick on clear mascara for example, but i think it will help my confidence a bit.

Skin tone: peely-wally scottish milk bottle effect Grin

thanks in advance for suggestions on where to start...

If you can get away without foundation then maybe just a concealer. Max factor and bourgeois both do illuminating ones, touche eclat if your budget allows. Apply it in a triangle shape from outer eye to nostril and then pat in.

Mascara: brown or black depending on colouring.

You can get brow gels for eyebrows if yours are sparse. Rimmel and maybelline both do versions. You can go higher end but if you're not into makeup im not sure its worth it.

Finally, a little blusher on the apple of your cheeks if you want to create a light flush.

So I went with the Lumene @OxanaVorontsova. I think it does have a subtle effect of making me not look like I've been awake for years. Grin

Also got some Carmex @Notmyrealname855 - i totally recognise the smell, must have had some years ago.!

The mascara test has not gone so well. I picked up the one that @WolfhoundsofLove suggested, but it went a bit clumpy.

ThAnks again all

I recommend Benefit tinted lash primer as a mascara alternative www.benefitcosmetics.com/uk/en-gb/product/theyre-real-tinted-primer

It separates the lashes, doesn't go clumpy and is very subtle. I don't have to fight it off my face after either. It says to follow with mascara, but for a daytime look I often wear it on its own. I'm dark haired so it doesn't add colour, but it will add some if you are very fair haired. It's not waterproof or smudgeproof though, and not the cheapest either. Mine seems to last long enough that I haven't considered not repurchasing.
